| | | anybody got caught by an alarm ? < on 10/23/2006 1:15 PM >
| | | anybody got caught by an alarm ? i had my first yesterday... yesterday i did some infiltration and urbexation (2 castles), the infiltration contained 3 factory's, in use those where my 3 first infiltrations... The first was nothing special! The second took me about 120 seconds to get from the street, on the rooftop, inside the building, easy! The third factory, well, there it went little wrong, ive got caught by... the alarm, loud and clear WIEWIEWIEWIEW... we where already a bit further inside before the damn thing started to scream, had to run like hell... but we made it alive without getting hold of some security or police... have to admit, it give's a nice trill and kick... | | | I avoid occupied structures (those not abandoned) like the plaque. You won't be able to reason that out with a cop, and will be treated as a burglar.
make that q a g. that will teach me to sit 4 feet from the scream. [last edit 10/24/2006 7:06 AM by blackhawk - edited 1 times]

| | | I've explored a building while the fire alarm was going the entire time, no biggie. Also a few buildings where the alarm system had been going for the duration of a few months and no one obviously cared to reset it... or where the alarm has been disconnected and is beeping constantly due to the broken connection. Or the motion sensors that still light up but don't trip an audible or silent alarm. However, then there is the joys of walking into a building after painstakingly getting inside and tripping the alarm system, forcing you to run like hell.

Ha-ha, it doesn't count if light up but not connected, unless of coarse you ran like hell. If so, me too! Your walking down a damp, dark, deserted, water soaked hallway when on the cieling you see a red LED start flashing. WTF? I hate that! Anytime there's power, that's a bad sign, prolly not a good place to be.

| | | My friends and i decided to pull the car up to a ladder that was a bit off of the ground once to see where it led. We climbed on top of the car, and up the ladder. We found a roof hatch, we opened it, heard an alarm, and ran. We got out of there before the cops got there.

of course, but every once in a while it's fun, especially if the building's not that great, it makes a mediocre day into an exciting day, with a story to tell

| | | I set off an alarm in a semi abandoned hospital and had to run out of there. Also I set off an alarm trying to get to an abandoned hotel way at the top of an unabandoned building. both times nothing happened.

| | | So then, how does one tell the difference between an alarm that you need to run from and an alarm/motion sensor trip that you don't?

Check to see if the alarm's connected to a phone line. That's one way. You can also wait and find out.

| | | A group of people from the boards and I were exploring a certain un-named location in the San Francisco-Bay Area a number of months ago when we heard an alarm. We had just opened a French door in the back of the structure when the ENTIRE valley sounded with the trill of the alarm. Considering who owns the place we were at, it is not that unconceivable that he could have an alarm that would sound for miles upon miles and notify every neighbor within 20 miles. All of us made it back to the car we were using at the time and booked the hell out of there. Needless to say, it was the volunteer fire department's siren for that area (ambulance callout) and we eventually made up our minds to go back to the location and it turned out to be one of the best trips I had ever been on with a group. Also, I found a group of people in this area that I would explore with anytime. In the face of adversity, they risked quite a bit to make sure that everyone made it out of the area before the 'alarm' brought the 'police.' I look back on that incident now and I laugh (I laughed that night also), but at the time I thought, "Here goes my career if I am caught here." Alarms can scare the shit out of you, but they can be funnier than hell if they are not alarms! Dave

You can also find the alarm panel and it will say if anything has been triggered or if the system is even armed. They're usually at the main entrance (one time I found it in a boiler room). But I'd recommend leaving the building and waiting to see if anyone shows up first.
