Hugging the Wall

Recently I've made a habit of hugging the wall when crossing an unstable floor or staircase. Would this save you? It seems kinda stupid to assume that the section closest to the wall is the strongest. Or is the wall giving you something to hang on to?

I think that a lot of the points discussed here http://www.uer.ca/...d=1&threadid=36872 would apply to this discussion as well.

Any walls along the outside of the building or walls that are in the exact same spot on all the floors between you and the ground should give you more support. But ones that arn't are going to add more weight so be careful. The best thing you can do is to go slow and feel for soft spots.
