1st Time UE'ing

Well I was just sitting here at my work computer (yes I'm a very busy person ;) ) thinking up of some new spots to check out when I could not help but reflect on the first time I ever UE'd. So I thought it would be interesting if we all shared a story or two about the first time we ever did, or just some funny story, and this would be mine:

I was about 16, always the adventurous type. Something runs in the blood of my family, we are all very curious people, and well, won't stop being curious until we know the answer. Well that same curiousity led me and a friend of mine to an apartment complex a few blocks from my house back in Milwaukee, Wi that had recently been shut down. (We BELIEVE part of it as due to the drugs being ran through there, that and well the apartments were pretty bad and unfit to live in). The entire first floor is boarded up, and the fences were locked up and had some newly placed barbed wire. But we were able to find a gap in the dirt and fence and managed to dig and crawl under. From there we climbed onto the front porch roof thingy, lift the window that was right there for the stairs and got in. It was a pretty impressive find for us being as young as we were. We didn't find any drugs or anything like that. But a lot of garbage that people left behind, tagged up hallways, you know the usual stuff. And it was pretty cool and creepy, especially being at night just added to the excitement for us. So yes, that is my first time UE'ing, and have done it on and off since then. But I did not even know that there was even a name for it. Well, I knew there was but not UE'ing, I always called it breaking and entering ;) No, I didn't find out about the whole UE 'world' until just recently when I joined the site looking for new locales.

So! Come one come all and share!

Well, my very first time was a grocery store with I was 13.. I was getting into photography with my brand new point and shoot, and I mentioned to my friend that I'd seen a lot of great photos from abandoned buildings. Then he told me about a grocery store down the street from him that had been closed for many years. So we crawled in through a loading dock. I guess that was my first UE.

Mine was in an abandoned house when i was about 10.

This house was on the same lot as a newer house, and the front house had old people living in it.

( i later found out that the kid of one of the old people was living in the back house and was crazy and ether tried to kill herself or actually did, so the house sat after she was taken away)

Me and about 6 other kids my age climbed through a window that was right off the alley.

This place was all torn up inside, and looked as if half the house had caught on fire.

There was bottles of pills littered everywhere, spiders, a flipped over couch and an old bed with a ww2 looking cot on it.

The house was later knocked down when it was discovered that kids played in the alley and some how got into the house.

Shouldn't this be under Main? Or Rookies?

I'll post when I get a few minutes.

Boy... Where to start. Before I had my camera, I was always venturing through stairwells and corridors of hospitals when I was visiting someone, or the same when staying at hotels.

My first abandoned house was at (or near) the San Mateo Memorial Park. It was an old 3-story house that was built on the side of the hill below the road and just above a flowing creek. The stairs that lead to the front door from the road was in poor shape, so I only go to make it halfway down, but I did see most of the place.

Other sites I've been to include abandoned vehicles in the Morgan Hill mountains, barns and sheds on county parks (that were closed to the public), and trying to pry open a few doors on some old buildings in mining towns.

That was long ago... These days, I use a digital camera and photograph railroad yards and old buildings. I have extensive history on the College Park Yard and the Southern Pacific rail line in San Jose. Many of the trestles and rail lines that don't exist, I have original pics of.

As for buildings, I do it for the history. Once they're gone, you'll never see them again. So I document and research their history. Examples would be the Almaden AFS and College Park Roundhouse, with others on the way. Sure it's a great way to have fun and explore, but learning about it's history can be an adventure in itself... How 'bout you?

You are more than likely right adman, and I didn't think about that. But really my intent was just to get to know one another a bit more here on the west coast board thingy a bit more, share a few experiences, and possibly get a few laughs out of it. So yeah, you're right. The only thing that I can say is - good intentions, bad judgement.

Damn, the Brickworks? I've HEARD about that place, never been there, that seems like a pretty cool place to start.

All those other places seem pretty interesting. So you never found out if that girl killed herself or what huh? lol, would be interesting if that place ended up being haunted ;)

It kinda sucks cause I never used a camera really until, well, now. I did use it occasionally before, but my digital camera is gone now, as is the memory card that was in there. So word from the wise, don't be lazy in saving your pics!

Ohhhhh Byberry is one of those holy grail sites that those of us on the West Coast will probably never get to see. Its an abandoned Mental Hospital back East in Philly.

He knows where the Old Ones broke through of old, and where They shall break through again. He knows where They have trod earth’s fields, and where They still tread them, and why no one can behold Them as They tread.
