The Brick Works

The other day i was taking some photos at the brickworks and i ran into a young lady doing her thesis on the building. Anyways we got talking about how its good they dont just tear this place down and she told me what she had found out was the future of the building. I told her I had heard it was to become a restaurant and she told me this was true as well, the roof would be ripped off the main part and they would have a garden between the kilns and in the winter it would be a skating rink, how cool is that! Anyways i was wondering if people knew the fates of any other buildings, i know there was a thread about canada malting turning into some music hall of fame.

The Gardiner Centre for Ceramics is setting up shop there as well. All in all, it is an excellent redevelopment plan.

It's funny, it has to be one of the most accessible sites around, everyone has explored the heck out of it, but it's still one of my favourite locations.

It's the new Whitby Psych, in terms of accessibility and over-exploration.

Yeah, I was in there last week and met three different groups of people inside for their own reasons... at least there's room to spread out a bit though. I've never felt cramped in there - even during some larger Toronto meets.

edit - cute boy, the Canada Linseed Oil Mills, south of the Dundas Triangle is going to be turned into a community centre - not sure how much redevelopment is going to go on, so much as just tearing it down and starting fresh. Also, there's the Metronome project which is perrenially talked about as the end-game for the Canada Malting Plant. Are there any specific buildings who's fate you were interested in?

It'll be interesting to see the Brickworks converted into something a la the Distillery District, much better than just tearing it down. I still manage to see something new most of the times I check that place out.

Lastly, Metronome is a joke.

Here's a lockpick. It might be handy if you, the master of unlocking, take it with you.

Well no, they're better than LIUNA in the sense that they've yet to acquire sufficient capital to accomplish anything other than some shortlived television commercials.

Hey Cuteboy, from what I heard Jamie Oliver, the goodlooking chef from TV is opening the restaurant. I'm happy they are not building ugly ubiquitous condos there.

I think you mean Jamie Kennedy, the celebrated Toronto chef, not the British television chef.

Correct. And from what I've been told from volunteers, it is more a restaurant to serve the on-site conference/banquet facilities, rather than a typical full service restaurant.

No buildings will be removed, and most of the equipment inside the kiln warehouse will be maintained (though, the dangerous items will be removed or tidied up a bit) and only one small new building will be added.

I was there last Sunday, 7:00am to enjoy the sunbeams, and I was disappointed that nobody else dropped in!

The place is much easier to get around in now that the barriers put up by the site's former live-in guest is gone.

Yeah, it's been explored by many, but it has so much to offer...I love watching the circles of beamed light tracking across the wall as the Earth slowly turns, it's like an ancient sun calender, very cool and hypnotic.

Check it out before the atmosphere in there is gone forever.

I drop in every time I'm in Toronto for some shots. The thing I love about the brickworks is that it's so very relaxed. You can just walk around as lazy as you want, taking your time lining up the perfect picture without worrying who will see you. Stelco here in Hamilton was a lot like that, which is why I love the Brickworks so much. Good to take a break from the higher risk stuff where you have to tip toe around and be careful who sees or hears you.

Also well said regarding LIUNA, Kowalski.
