|  | | | drove up to my dad's for thanksgiving today, decided to take a new route through the area known as purdon in lanark county. the area is well known for it's extremely rare wild orchids (lady slippers) which only bloom for 3 weeks in the year.
driving down some single track dirt road I came across a row of abandoned barrack style cottages. found out later that it was an old summer camp for the junior rangers. don't know much more than that. all in good shape, just busted out windows, doors and cement foundations. I'll post pics when I get back to a faster internet connection if anyone's interested.

| | | | it's definitely a secluded area, lavant is a near ghost town on it's own (used to be a train station before they ceased the K n P railroad aka. kick n push and made it a recreational trail)

| | | | here's a couple more I caught before I found this location that's not quite UE but definitely exciting to see.
I've driven these roads for as long as I've had a licence and this was the first moose I've ever seen. I got up about 15 feet before he looked at me and started flaring his nostrils at me. at that point I backed off.

| | | | thanks guys for your interest. here's what I found out about the place; it was a girl guides camp between the late 50's to it's close in 78. it's been boarded shut for over 20 years til very recently when somebody decided to break in and vandalize the place. owned by the government they decided to board it up in the hopes to reopen the place. the buildings are in very good condition for what they are and can possibly be renovated if the random acts of vandalism cease. I counted 15 buildings consisting of 2 sleep bunkers, a mess hall, cooks quarters, bathhouse, 2 counsellors buildings, electrical hut and a tool/repair shop. the rest being random outhouses. my source was an older fellow in the area spending his thanksgiving at his hunting cabin nearby. he was there to use the outhouses.
