| | Greens Creek Barn, Ottawa < on 9/27/2006 1:24 AM >
| | | The huge barn near the Highway 174 / Montreal Road interchange is finally vacant! It sits on NCC land and has been used for storage for the Book Market. At present there is no way in, but the locals might end up breaking in soon. The NCC likes to demolish anything that is vacant for too long and inside the Greenbelt. This farm was one of many expropriated in the 60's for the Greenbelt and rented back to the farmer. The adjacent farmhouse sat abandoned for a few years and came down around 1992ish. See the note I found in the door from Hydro Ottawa! Essentially it explains that the hydro lines are going to be cut unless someone complains. [last edit 9/27/2006 1:25 AM by abacab - edited 1 times]

| | | Bryan, nice to go out of your way to be negative. Now he knows to condense his posts into a few posts as possible. He's new and motivated. No need to discourage that at all, considering most posters here post and bitch minus the exploring.

| | | Also nearby is the former Golden Valley Farm which has just been vacated and the sign taken down. Get to it before the NCC does!

beware. i have seen more dead animals out in front of that barn during my lifetime than i care to count (or recount to anyone). i remember them once leaving a dead colt outside, facing st-joseph, for two days - i'd be worried about what i'd find inside. | | | The place is completely empty. It sat wide open throughout most of the winter last year. Nothing interesting. It was nice that the hydro was still on then. The Book Market store of used books used to use the barn as a storage facility. The barn interior has been modified to accept the five tonne truck they owned, the crusty orange/yellow Peterbuilt 377 tractor sat outside. The interesting part of the barn is that the upstairs is actually level ground on the backside of the barn. Oh, and if you can find your way into the place through the still gaping hole on the side, you'll meet the fat racoon that calls the building home.
