| | | I'm in Freezebanks at the moment, but I'm in Anchorage during the summer. Feel free to shoot me a message or something, I'm not that familiar with what there is to see around the 'banks, but I'm always game to explore nonetheless. [last edit 9/23/2006 9:59 PM by eidolon - edited 1 times]

| | | I believe that the legendary Beersniper is usually in Alaska. I think he's in the Twin Cities at the moment though.

| | | Hi Dan, good to see another person from the state! I'm from the Juneau area, went to college in Fairbanks and worked in Anchorage for a while. I'm currently in Minnesota for grad school but I usually get back up there for the summers. My Alaska exploring website is at http://freak.minimanga.com/main.htm I also have some links to other related sites at http://freak.minimanga.com/links.htm, although that list hasn't been updated for a while.

| | | I'm just hopping in from the South Western boards, hoping that someone has been to the Buckner Building in Whittier, or would go, so I can live vicariously through you. Some people just mentioned the "Holy Grail" of ue, and I remembered that building... http://radio.weblo.../09/30/buckner.jpg

| | | If anyone's looking for places to get started (and doesn't sound like a 14 year old / tagger / vandal) I have a good list of sites around the state. Mostly mines and old military bases, with a few ghost towns and abandoned buildings thrown in there. All the good stuff is pretty remote, as anything close to towns gets smashed by kids and rednecks. There are still a few places around Fairbanks, Anchorage, and Juneau where you can still find undisturbed ruins and un-looted artifacts. I also know of a lot of good research sources in various libraries and local history centers for finding more/new information and sites.

| | | Added you on MSN, send me a message whenever you're on. I'm looking to get out exploring again soon too. As soon as the highway thaws out I'm going to start commuting to Anchorage every couple weekends to do some body work on my truck at my dad's shop, and I'll probably be able to squeeze some exploring in too.

| | | "...as soon as the highway thaws out..." Does it really get that bad up there? Man, and I thought California highways in the sierras were bad. Are you able to drive on them at all, even with wire-chains? -Ryan

Oh, they're driveable. They plow them and everything. I just don't like to make the trip in the winter. Too much risk to do it just for the hell of it, there's always the off chance you'll hit a patch of black ice and end up in the woods or rolling down a hill.
