| | Anyone ever explored active gravel quarries? < on 9/13/2006 5:36 PM >
| | | You know, the really big places with giant mountains of sand and rock, deep pits and huge machinery? There's a few around here and I would like to check some out. Any ideas/hints/pointers? [NOTE: This may belong in the Tutorials section. Move it if need be, thanks.]

| | | Watch out for those cute little K-9 houses inside the quarry. A very rude surprise at night, fortunately it was day and my eyesight is 10/20 @ distance. I think I can do without that kind of fun.

| | | I did some scuba diving in some inactive quarries at night. It was a blast untill I came upon a drum warning "Dangerous toxic materials". They were night dives with a buddy, never dive alone

| | | Yea, but they weren't too well guarded. In my younger days, my friend and I used to take our Motocross bikes over to one and play "dodge the security guy."

I've done some quarry diving, but never found anything like that. Makes me wonder if I just missed it.

| | | Yes go at night/twilight, use light only when necessary, watch for dogs often chained to equipment and scout for exits - often quarries and pits only have a few with large banks, you can get boxed in real easy

| | | One of the two active queries. Night time has always been the best. THey are interesting to go through, and sometimes they shut down. If you get the chance I would try, as they can be alot of fun especially if they have minimal crew at around 2am http://www.uer.ca/...ow.asp?locid=20628

| | | I have never really explored the quarries around here because there is not much to see. I however did go in for a swim quite a few times. I got caught and booted out every damn time. Oh well fun while it lasted.

So very right. I should have added that. I was in my late teens then and never gave such things much thought back then.

| | | There is a small active quarry right down the street from me and never really thought of going to it until about a month ago. It has now turned into one of my favorite places to just chill at during the night. We explored the whole place finding what has to be one of the steepest hills I have seen, at least 75% which I plan on sledding down this winter; has a nice jump at the end into trees though lol. It also has a great view of my surrounding area and surprisingly of the stars; which is why my friend thinks I am going to use it as a make out spot, he was right. Also playing games like king of the mountain or just racing up the top of the sand piles is a lot of fun. Rolling down the hills can be fun as well but usually the stop can suck. So in my opinion definitely go just be careful of security, I am sure not ever quarry is as void of security as this one.

NVG's are almost useless, because their is usually way to much light in the area. NVG is only really good for building that have ample security and relatively no lighting.

| | | 3 things: 1) I work in several active quarries/gravel pits. They are loud, dirty, and FUCKING BORING...... 2) Stay OUT of water at these places....wh throw all kinds of crap into pools in ours, more gravel/dirt, trash, metal, things that we want to see sink or not... 3) Security? WHAT security....we have rental coppers that drive thru the area 2-3 times a night, but they never really stop/bother/interact with us.....and we have no dogs.... Be careful out there, as other businesses arent so lax on security....and may throw MORE crap in the water
