The top stair has been almost completely burned and if I had seen it from the top first, I would have left. Sturdy though, just a little disheartening.

Fedge has some pics on his site (post fire)....

http://fedge.50webs.com/006/

IanK and fedge also took some pre fire pics, and they are on this site....

I wouldn't go snooping around there any more... too much heat (no pun intended). Between the taggers and the arsonists, your sure to draw attention if you are within the temporary fence.

If the walls are still structurally sound, it can still be done. Just a lot more expensive.

I am surprised they havent tarped the thing at the very least. Because they havent done that, I am going to assume they are not going to salvage it... despite what the owner said in a previous interview. Nobody who is planning on seriously fixing up a house they care for lets it sit idle and open to the elements for such a long time. Think of all the mould and wood thats rotting because they wont tarp it. Idiots.

As much as I like to think it was asshat kids doing the arson, I wonder what role the developer who owns the land surrounding the Ringwood on its E and S sides had in it. Not accusing. Just wondering. If *I* was developing Victoria & Hopkins, the Ringwood would stick out like a sore thumb among all the brand new super modern buildings. Solution? Burn it down. Not that I would do that as a developer and not that I'm accusing them.

I was thinking the exact same thing, Fedge. I mean, the place is on a healthy sized corner of that development lot... just kind of ironic that as soon as it's announced the place it being restored, it gets torched.

I know...Thats sad that there are people in this world that all they care about is money and how they would make more...And that one would go and burn down a nice old house that they where saving...Just so he can have more land...

According to the company that purchased the property, they are still planning on restoring Ringwood. Can't find the article, but I know I saw it in the local paper.

As for tarping the property, from what I understand, the inside was messed up before the fire when a bunch of water pipes burst. Also, I would think that the amount of water damage from putting out the fire far outweighs any damage the elements could cause, so a tarp would be like holding an umbrella while swimming in the ocean. (I was watching HOUSE tonight, and was inspired to work on my metaphors, or analogies, or whatever they are called).

Dun.

Not quite. Long term wet is way worse than a soaking/draining. I could see them leaving it open to the air for a while to let the excess moisture evaporate from a few warm days, but this was a longgggg time ago. Also, the pipe situation did not ruin too much as far as could be seen from Fedge's interior pics/trips. A tarp would at the very least symbolize an attempt to repair/restore was coming.

What a shame. When IanK1968 and I were there in June 2005, Ringwood wasn't in the greatest shape (ceiling water damage) but it was certainly within the realm of restoring for future use. Now, I can't see how it'll be saved by the new owners. Give it time and I bet we'll see it demoed sooner than later...

Wow Psych, I didn't know the fire was that extensive. I had heard it was only on the second floor and roof and such. What a shame that the main floor is ruined too... I had wanted to go in myself after the fire to see how bad it was, but didn't dare attempt it because of the revived activity. Glad I got to see it a couple times before this happened. *Sigh* Thanks for letting us see the damage.

I drove by here a few days ago, the roof is GONE and it's tagged to death. There were also front-end loaders and other large orange vehicles sitting around. Makes me think she'll be a thing of the past before the new year. I urge everyone to go now.
