| | | Search button and LDB suggest nobodies done the K7 bldg or the K25 Just saw a show on History Channel said the K25 is gonna be demolished (dont know the date of the show it was on tonight) and its contaminated it looks like theres AEC signs all over but the gates and doors were open??? (in the K7 they used a bunch of big electromagnets to separate U235 from U238 14000 TONs of silver wire were used in the windings because of the shortage of copper, I reckon thats been salvaged...but the "calcutrons" are still there) Anyway they said K25 was the biggest bldg in the world, surely you guys have checked that out two 4 story wings over a half mile long and 400ft wide apiece? that'd be hard to miss how bout some pics?

| | | yeah, take it from somebody who grew up there. You do NOT want to try and check out any of the alphabet sites. they've been cleaned of radiation only to the 12ft level, and have active security (from the guys who train swat teams). we're talking cameras in the trees, snipers in ghille suits here. perhaps you could arrange a tour, as they do give them, and for a time they rented parts of k-25 out to businesses (one of which my father ran until it was shut down). You can tour the graphite reactor, and the spalation neutron source, but other than that, you're talking about active military sites. I took a drive around oak ridge last time I was in that neck of the woods. just about everything as been demolished, with the exception of a few sites that are active again. | | | I'll have to second that as a former local. I haven't taken any tours since high school, but they were interesting, and much better that getting yourself owned by military security.

| | | I went to school with a guy that grew up there. I thought the guy going through the woods finding old workers housing was pretty cool. Maybe one day people will pay me to run around in the woods and look for stuff
This isn't boot camp and you are not a ninja. But you sure look like an idiot in that outfit. |
