Hi friends.
I'm from Cranbury in central NJ and have been wandering around abandoned America for most of my life. My interests are draining (it's what got me started long ago) and abandoned military or industrial sites. I'm always ready to visit new places.

Hi!

I live in NY, about an hour and a half outside the city (Poughkeepsie area). I just recently got into exploring. I've always been interested in history and photography, and my affinity to push the boundaries make this a perfect hobby for me. I started UEing about two months ago, and I've loved it ever since. I'm hoping to maybe meet some people that I could go UEing with. Otherwise I'll probably just be lurking, looking for useful bits of information that will help me hone our craft.

Hey Guys, I'm Dom from Herndon, VA. dont get many opportunities to UE where i live (the endless suburbs) but have done a bit here and there at my grandparents' house in PA. I really want to be able to do more and am glad to be getting into a community of fellow UErs

I'm new to the forum but not new to UE. I've been doing various UE activities for a few years now, mainly in abandonments. I've always been prone to trespassing (who can resist?) but I'd like to become more involved in exploring closed/abandoned facilities. I'm kind of a history nerd, and what I like most about UE is getting a peek into old buildings and what people leave behind. I also find a lot the structures to be beautiful, though I'm not a photographer.

I recently went to the Dejarnette Center, and I'm living in Washington D.C for the summer.

Hello everyone! I'm just a sixteen year old teenager, living in the middle of nowhere, with a keen interest in photography and history of abandoned places. While I have no experience in UE since the only places I've actually been in were old farm houses, I have always wanting to photograph abandoned asylums and bunkers. Once I have a car and graduate from high school, however, I will most likely begin my journey of visiting places.

Being a lurker on this site on and off for the past three years, I've finally decided to register and become involved as much as I can. It's nice to find a place where I can discuss my interests and talk with fellow explorers without getting strange looks from friends and family members!

Hi peeps,
I signed up to this site a long time a go, but I've started taking more of an interest in UE and just exploring the vast and interesting crevices of our world. I'm from the Oakville area, which is situated in Ontario, Canada. I'm not completely new to the whole exploration/infiltration scene, I've done a fair bit of it myself - with modesty of course. I'm also a practitioner of parkour/freerunning so finding unique architecture always interests me. Besides that, I'de like to meet some people from the oakville area if it is at all possible.

Already introduced myself in the mammoth Rochester thread, but I suppose I should do it here too.

I'm an nascent urban explorer- I've done a couple things around my campus (Rochester Institute of Technology), some rural ruin stuff, and a couple serious urban trips. I grew up in the country where there's nothing but abandoned barns (not terribly exciting after the first couple). I've only recently discovered that there's a community around recreational trespassing, but I'm kinda glad it's not quite as lonely a sport as it seems. It's quite cool that there's a place like this where I can hear other people's stories and benefit from their experience.

For those who know Rochester, my trips of note include the Terrance Building and BeeBee Station.

I'm not a photographer, but pictures seem to be the currency here at uer, so I think I'll start taking a camera.

I have been a member for a while. I am particularly interested in photography. I am DJ Craig's Dad. He is a full member and has taken us to his favorite local site. As a family we created a posting called Old King Coal that I think is worth looking at:

http://www.uer.ca/...d=1&threadid=65923

I took the photos, often using LED lights as the light source, and very long exposures using a tripod. The text was written by my wife and captures her thoughts about the life of the people who worked in this old coal fired power plant.

With the stimulus package many of these old historical sites are likely to be demolished and I see it as our job to record the history before it disappears. Many people see these structures as eyesores and sources of pollution but if they are going to be demolished we should do some basic archaeology in the form of photographic documentation.

We have done a lot of work on recording the history of the gold rush in our home country of New Zealand and have compiled a database of 32,000 gold miners who recorded claims. We have located the first gold mine where gold was found in Thames and confirmed it using photography and historical descriptions, recorded its GPS coordinates and had it recorded in an official archaeological database. I should submit a posting about that.

We he have also spent a lot of time compiling Irish history, particularly the area around Cork since about 1600. This has taken us exploring old abandoned buildings, churches and castles that are generally unknown places. I posted some photos of a castle taken with a fisheye lens:

http://www.uer.ca/...=search&currpage=4

I have been doing SLR photography around the world since 1977 when I bought my first SLR, a Pentax ME. Travelled in 50 countries including 14 months driving a VW combie through Africa and 7 months around Europe.

Since Craig was using my Nikon D100 I just had to buy another one and got a full format FX Nikon D700 with 24-120 zoom and a fish eye lens. I'll find somewhere else to rave about that!

I hope lots of you will come to the Mid-Atlantic Meet Up (MAMU-2). We have floor space and plenty of room for tents for anyone who wants to stay.

I am a doctor but fortunately I am off work that week.

Hey Everybody,
I'm KierPhelan and like many here I was doing this long before there were names for it. We called it exploring, dungeon delving, warehouse diving, urban spelunking, etc. and social engineering was just something you did to get where you needed to go.

I've been doing this since the late 80's and even now can't resist a good adventure. I've gone UE all through the States and even into Hong Kong the last few years. I currently live 3/4 of my year in Milwaukee, WI and the rest in Hong Kong.

I couldn't even begin to count the number of warehouses, refineries, factories, farmhouses, churches, schools, slaughterhouses, etc. that I've been through. My girl luckily understands my crazy and supports my adventures, mostly cause she knows I'll do it anyway

I think I could share a couple of my favorite stories:
There was the first time I talked my way out of a police stop with a business card and a camera.

The time I had to negotiate an ice filled warehouse basement in the middle of summer.

The fact that an old warehouse that we used to spend lots of time exploring now houses not only the shop that fixes my motorcycle, but also a gallery that I've exhibited at.

Nearly getting shot at one warehouse that was a bit more occupied on a given day than usual, had to leap into a dumpster from the roof that time.

Ending up in Myrtle Beach in between hurricanes and getting to explore the amusement parks and empty streets all night long as the wind never stopped roaring. Truly a memorable night.

Finding an abandoned and hidden YMCA camp overlooking the South China Sea.

There are so many more, but those are for later posts

I need to scan a lot of my old pics, and organize my new ones. I hope to get those posted with stories soon.

Pleased to meet you all. If anyone has good spots in Hong Kong to check out, I'll be back there in September.

Hello, Glad I found a site like this. Always loved exploring whether it be a forest, caves, or abandoned buildings. I'm sure this place will help in finding more places to go.

Just went to the Toronto meetup yesterday. Being an old(er) guy I was a bit concerned but it was a good time and met some cool people. Will definitely be doing it again.

Cheers
