interesting locations, vibrant clear colors and tones, especially that first one.
i'd work on refining the shot composition.
last one is good for its patterns, but it's also rather standard.

I don't know any of them. I think you need to pick subjects before you take the picture. Or if you did, I don't think you did, which is a problem.

i have never taken a photograph in my life

That doesn't make any sense. . . .
I was just asking if anyone recognized any of these locales from their travels.

I like the color and use of texture on number, I have to agree though, on some of the exterior shots they seem more like a snapshot than an actual picture attempting to be artistic in some way. However if that was your intention, just a quick snapshot to show overall what was there, then they're totally fine.

* Perhaps you can help with ideas for the tower? it is pretty formulaic - BUT - how do you artistically shoot a 10 story high watchtower in a snow storm? They are so hard to capture anyway and stitching up/down you run into exposure differences. Input? I plan to return soon anyway.

Don't take this the wrong way but...
Maybe I am just defending a friend but I see your attitude as out of line. You like to tear down other's photography like you are an art instructor. But why should I value your input, since you have yet to post one of your photographs. Arrogance is ok only when you have the goods to back it up. You have not proved to me that you have the goods, yet.

Oh and I really like 2 & 5 the most. 1 is a bit to vivid for my taste but what do I know, I'm color blind

* I was actually hoping Leviathan would show up and say all sorts of nasty things. The difference is that his negative commentary is useful and constructive.
* I never claimed to have great skills with a camera and never will. I am sure there are plenty of people here who will shoot more this August than I will in all of 2007.
* I have only been at this for 4 years or so - less than a year with a respectable digital camera. I guess I am universally frustrated with a general lack of constructive input (here, on photosig, flicker, and other sites) and I hope I too was not fanning or being a jerk.
* And Hey - just to clarify, May was defending me, not you Grassy.

You missed my point.
I took the liberty of going over your posts, you always say negative things about peoples photos, that does not bother me. Plenty of people on here do that. The difference is we have seen their work and it speaks volumes as to how good their advice is. For instance...Cringe said some of my shots were too sharp. That did not bother me because he has posted his work online and I know from his skill, that he is giving good advice. You on the other hand(grassy) have never posted any of your images. So I see you as someone who wants to "feel like a big man" by downing everyone's work. I am aware that this might not be your intention, but perception is everything.

My valuable and constructive bit of advice for you is to post some photos that proove you are so much better than the rest of us, then you can be an arrogant prick.

I do not take photos. I only hate them.
One of these day I'm going to go and do a real urban exploration, too.

maypost - well said!!

Now the critique (not than I am any expert)...

1 - Doesn't feel like it has any real subject.... but the colours (as others have pointed out) save it for me. And I love rust.

2 - I'm sorry but this one is terrible compared to the others... looks like a botched Photoshop job. Whatever you did messed up the tops of your trees. Were you trying to eliminate all the white or something?

3 - Like it. Especially because that tattered shoe is a couple inches from what appears to be a rusty nail. Yay tetanus shot! And busted brick is always fun.

4 - Fantastic. Love the angle, love the sky.

5 - Decent composition, but it looks like you tried to change the rust to an orangy-yellow or something?

6 - Might have had a better impact if it was straight and symmetric. Compared to the rich colours and textures in the other photos this leaves me wanting.

Keep it up!

- BG

Thank you so much for the imput.

These were just random leftovers. . . . I do not intentionally manipulate any color channel in photoslop - I usually keep the preset white balancing on my camera set to cloudy which accounts for the disgusting and oversaturated reds.

>>>>> Advice for shooting on a cloudy, white-sky, rainy day? I agree completely #2 looks like shit - but it looks 100% worse in color.
