| | Anybody in Houston remember the ABYSS???!!! < on 7/23/2006 6:29 AM >
| | | Washington Ave. I cannot tell you how many shows I saw there. IMHO....there has NEVER been a better club since. I heard it was closed due to the bathrooms not being up to code, and the owners refusal to fix them. Last time I went by it was pretty well shut up....but you could still see old flyers all over the place.
Anyone checked it out ? [last edit 7/23/2006 6:29 AM by BGv2.0 - edited 1 times]

Wow, that must have been some fucked up bathrooms! Doesnt cost that much to bring em to code! I did three floors in building for less than 30k once. Then again if he had like only 3 three stalls for a 1,000 person club or something I guess it could be expensive. Sounds like a cheap bastard or the place wasnt making much money!

| | | No way man.....that place was making a ton. Packed house just about every mid-major show. So many bands got their early starts playing there. Faith No More, Perl Jam, Nirvana, Gwar, Deadhorse, Misfits, Sepultura, Mr. bungle....the list just goes and goes... I do remember the bathrooms being FUNKY....with a capital FUNK! and small.

Ok .. so back to my first thought then ... He was a cheap bastard AND didnt give a shit about his clientèle! I still answered your question the first time! Theres usually two answers with this type of stuff, it's to expensive based on returns the place is making or the owners are just cheap bastards and could give a crap about their clients, you in this case, and would rather pocket the money and walk away. Sorry if thats harsh but seen it time after time after time.

| | | Wow, saw many a show there! The bathrooms were downright horrible. Great place to see a show otherwise. It looked like it used to be a movie theater, with the raked floor etc. Can anyone confirm that?

Oh God... there's some memories. Went to their Ragnarok tour back in '96. Got trampled in the mosh pit. Came out not knowing if the blood on me was my own or the fake stuff being sprayed from the stage.

| | | Man, the Abyss. I recall seeing Blue Murder there back in the day. I also recall standing about an inch deep in piss in the bano. Good times!
I have changed my personal exploring ethics code. From now on it will be: "Take only aimed shots, leave only hobo corpses." Copper scrappers, meth heads and homeless beware. The Jonsered cometh among you, bringing fear and dread. |
