headaches?

Do you ever get headaches towards the end of a trip?

Sometimes it will happen even when I'm wearing a respirator, but I wasn't wearing one today (dumb move) and came home with a pounding headache.

What do you think causes this?

I smelled paint the entire time, for some reason, so that's what I think it was this time. I think it's generally the dust overall.

Any thoughts?

Just a chemical reacting with your blood pressure. Some types of paint additives raise your blood presure.

I spend 8+ hrs a day wearing a respirator while spraying paint. If the cartridges are full in your mask it makes your lungs work harder raising BP.

I find myself itching a lot after a trip, mainly around my eyes, even with a respirator. Probably an allergy to something in the air, maybe mold. The only time I've gotten headaches is when I haven't had enough water.

I have never worn a respirator and I've been to some pretty contaminated places, never gotten a head ache. I suppose some people have different sensitivities to environmental stuff. Take an advil or tylenol 30 - 60 minutes before the end of your trip perhaps?

The first few trips I did, then I realised it was through de-hydration because I wasnt drinking anything, and getting low blood sugar levels (trust me on this one!) through not eating anything.

Since then, I always take drink and sweets with me, and havnt suffered since.

Well. I had a bottle of water with me

then my hands got covered in God knows what (plaster/fiberglass/asbestos/rust/anything else you can think of) and then I accidentally touched the top of my water bottle

so I was less inclined to drink it hahaha.

But yeah. Could be the respirator. I haven't changed the cartridges in that in a while

Good idea pyro. For some reason I never thought of taking pills with me. I normally just suffer and take meds when I get home.

You worry too much; you suck up more shit without the respirator in places you think are safe then you realize. Sanitarium is right, respirator make it harder to breath. Not sure about the BP, and anyhow you can't feel that.

Sound like your sinuses, maybe from how it sits on your face, or how you breath with it on. Could also be from mineral spirits, etc. in the paint if that's what you smell. Were you in a paint factory? Good seal around your face, with no beard?

The charcoal filters needs to be sealed, and stored away for solvents, etc. Use once if you want protection from organic solvents. Replace as needed in higher concentration environments. Some concentrations are too high for filters to handle, and air-fed/self-contained air equipment is necessary; avoid.

They treat cloth with formaldehyde. Sore throat, headache. Do not ingest.

I dont know anyone that would rightly just ingest fabric stuff.

Unless you're telling me to not eat, period. In which case, too late.

No sore through, just a headache.
But now that you say it, yep, you're right, it did smell like formaldehyde.

So do not, by any means, return without a respirator in good use?

Very toxic to ingest, not the fabric, the liquid itself. Fumes from the fabric are more a nuisance than a danger for short term exposure.

it seems like you're actually speaking with a lot of knowledge, so i dont know if i should disagree, but...

the factory had been out of commission for several years and was very well ventilated. can the formaldehyde still be around?

plus, we use formaldehyde all the time in biology, and i've never gotten headaches from that. that i can remember. but i did get a headache the first time i went to the fabrics factory. i guess worth noting that i didn't get one today. and i only wore a respirator about 10% of the time.

another fact, it had been raining today, so when lo fi and i were there, there wasnt much dust of any sort.

formaldehyde, maybe asbestos, or mold?

its kind of a mystery, aint it?

The only place that I've ever gotten a headache is an old photo equipment factory near me. The high mercury levels probably contributed to that. Other than that, as long as I stay hydrated I'm fine.
