URGENTLY NEED YOUR HELP - Abandoned places in Florida?
< on 7/5/2006 9:15 PM >

Hey everybody,

I'm Max and I found this board during a fruitless internet hunt for abandoned asylums/theme parks/tourist attractions/hospitals/factories/ANYTHING in Florida! I was wondering if anyone here could PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help me out. My friends and I are very eager to get exploring! Distance doesn't really matter, as long as it's IN THE STATE! We can't find anywhere; Xanadu is torn down, Sunland is demolished...

Help me out!

Look in the LDB, if you can't find anything by yourself. Even as a new member, there are 15 locations listed for Florida.

Just get in a car, drive until you find a decent sized dirt road, and head off down it. Its out there man.

I have changed my personal exploring ethics code. From now on it will be: "Take only aimed shots, leave only hobo corpses." Copper scrappers, meth heads and homeless beware. The Jonsered cometh among you, bringing fear and dread.

Check out the St. Petersburg Burial Mounds. Those look really exciting! After that... drive in any direction and... explore. It'll blow your mind.

Leave only footprints, take only pictures... unless its like really cool.

I just moved from Gainesville and can tell you that if you don't mind driving down in the slums, you can find at least 20 places within a square-mile. It's just the crack dealers you have to watch out for. Especially on SW Depot Ave. Shit, now that I think about it, the hookers are even scarier than them.

I added those since there was nothing from St. Pete listed.. It's really easy to access you won't break any laws. Do like Prometheus said--- drive in any direction - esp from that point & you will run into a thing or two.

Half the fun of what we do is making your own discoveries. That's why we call it EXPLORING! No one is going to sit here and tell you where all the good places are so you can go without putting any work into it. Go find your own places. It'll be much more satisfying. As you get more established, THEN you may find people that will be willing to trade locations, stories, etc.

Good Luck!

There's a lot of good stuff down Depot. Ave, like the old train station and the impound lot. Don't know why I said the impound lot, I've had nothing but unpleasant experiences with that place. Found an abandoned theatre on 13th street. You just have to look, and know what you're looking for.

Hi Guys! I'm new to Florida area and would also like to find places to explore and am looking for info on areas to search. I'm originally from Jersey and was recently to NOHO, Norwich, Hudson and Bennett with friends from up in Jersey and surrounding areas. I was reading thru the responses and saw the ST. Pete Burial Mounds suggested. I'd like to check them out and was wondering if there were any groups heading down that way anytime.

Ok... This one is for all the members to this forum! Please read the rules posted at the top of the Southeast Forum Main Page! I have added rule 11 due to all the new members expecting a handout. No one is going to tell you a location and all it is causing is just more added BS. Go out, do a meet and greet or find something new. Get in your car or on your bike or walk and find something. Next thread we see asking for a handout will be deleted.

Happy Exploring

I sympathize with the people who are asking for locations. It's especially hard if you're not experienced and don't know what to expect. And if you're in Florida, with its general lack of abandoned places [and if you, like me, don't have reliable transportation], you can't always just explore.

I have two Florida locations in the LDB that should be accessible to new users - though one is demolished - and I know of a couple more in the same area [Sarasota/Venice]. If you're anywhere around here...well, I do agree that it's better to get together and explore than to just give information on a location, especially since I'm short on people who share my interests around here, but I'm moving in a week. So let me know if you're in the area now.

If your interested and in the area, I work for a south FL development company and Can tell you where there is alot of stuff here... Due to Realestate not wanting to fix a building that is hurricane damage prone and would just rather "Redevelop" the site... Hell, there's a site on every block in Miami/Dade...

Personally, I'd be terrified to explore in Miami/Dade. I guess Orlando's going to be almost as bad, though. That sounds like a wonderful job, anyway. Are you in any way actually authorized to be in or around abandonments? Or are the perks of your profession limited to knowing where good sites are?

Both, as I do site evaluations and My company has ariel photos of all of south florida, Martin county to miami dade, and they have sites highlighted for for "future development"... Orlando is not as bad as south Fl. , but the cops are a lot more strict in "mickey land"... I grew up in a rough "hood" in Orlando, Pine hills AKA "Crime hills" Near Sunland Center Orlando, SoFl. is not much different, maybe better...
