Hey folks, just came back from Ottawa for Canada day, and on the way back I saw about three abandoned houses, 1 burned down gas station/ service centre and a rather interesting abandone motel. ( one of the room doors was cracked open a bit ) . All of these places are located roughly 22km NE of Kaladar, roughly halfway between Sharbot Lake and Kaladar. I only took a few pics of the gas bar, but it was a busy day for traffic so I didnt make a whole day event of it. Anyways, I wont be going back up there for awhile so if anyone happens to go to the motel, I would love to see some pictures.

I just made a trip up to Pembroke, my self, about a week ago. I think I saw the gas station you're referring too, as well as the motel. As far as the houses go, I saw a good half dozen old houses, some were probably the same.

If I hadn't been pressed for time, I'd have stopped for a look or two. As it was though, I had places to go.

Still, may go back sometime soon.

It all kind of went down hill from there.

and a rather interesting abandone motel.

Ahh, the abandoned motel, I have a cottage in the Arden area (turn off right before the motel). I have been meaning to check out this place, it's nice to see somebody else up there.

Hopefully in the next few weeks i'll post some pictures.

Also, of interest out that way, is the town of Flinton - Take the Flinton Rd. turnoff heading north off of hwy 7 (Just east of tweed/ west of kaladar) ...there's an abandoned school, general store, auto shop and a few houses.
People keep a close watch on the school...

Flinton Rd. is REALLY fun in a car with good tires/handling, I used to drive it every day coming from my at the time girlfriend's house and always had a blast in the Bimmer... not hard to get tires squealing in those corners at all.

I knew I should have gone down Flinton Rd. I very nearly did, too. Damn my tight schedule that day.

It all kind of went down hill from there.

yes indeed flinton rd is awesome... there are also a few abandoned houses just north (approx 8-9 km) north of kaladar on hwy 41.. very easy to spot..

plus if you go up hwy 41 approx 55km... off on the right is an abandoned airport.. if there are any buildings??/ that im not sure of yet... i was up there camping and noticed a sign... unfortunately the weather took a massive tole on us.. with an f2 twister not even 1/4 mile away from us... im heading up again in a couple weeks, gonna find out more

Careful, those houses on 41 aren't as abandoned as they look... the owners just don't like to mow their lawns or remove garbage. (Long story, ask me about it!)

HOWEVER.... just north of northbrook, maybe 2 km, there's an abandoned marble mine. It's pretty secure, really dangerous, and really cool looking.

I took a trip to the abandoned motel about a month ago, I made a DB entry.

http://www.uer.ca/...ow.asp?locid=25165

Sorry, it isn't actually in Kaladar, but I have no clue what township it is in.

An airport? Damn me and my quest to better my travel time that day.

Now I'm really kicking myself, I think a trip up just for the sake of that is in order.

On a serious note, glad you weren't harmed by that twister. Wasn't so bad around here.

It all kind of went down hill from there.

no. none of us were harmed in it.. i was cleaning a pit from a bonfire that some as* left behind.. and was emptying a load of ashes. and i was coming back to our camp site when it hit.. winds were strong enough to push the jeep i was in about 5 feet sideways, after that happened i just punched it back to the site, and put everyone inside the truck. and parked it on the beach about 4 feet off the shore.. if a tree was coming down i didnt feel like being a target.. but overall it was an experiance to remember.. id do it again in a heartbeat as long as i was a little further away from winds

Up along that stretch of hwy 7 around Kaladar sp? there are many many different places to explore. There is at least one store that i have seen and many many houses. anyone interested in making a day trip and trying to see as many as these places as possible? i figure that seeing as they are so close to the road they might be in danger of being torn down, or other people messing about in them, destroying the integrity of what may be inside. Anyone interested let me know.

I'm up along that path almost every other week in the summer and maybe once a month during the winter. I want to check out that old restaurant to your left right before you see the motel

I took a trip up along that way, and ended up in Kingston and made my way to Smith Falls, I took some photo's of the kingston insane asylum, and the abandoned smith falls hospital (not in UE DB .) I hope to post those to my website is the next few days, i'll send you a link when I do .

Have a good one.

Also, I doubt they will be torn down, the motel looks as if I was the first one visiting that place since the day of closing, not even footprints in the dust.

I'm up for that... I live near Ottawa but I'd make the trip down and meet up with you guys somewhere. Lemme know if it happens.
