Brown Street Market Centre, Manchester, UK

Back in the 1980's, there used to be an underground market centre with entrances on Brown Street, Manchester. When Tesco's moved into their premises next to it, the market centre was closed, and the public entrances were sealed off.

I am wondering, however, if the underground market still exists, and was just sealed off... Or if it was converted into storage facilities for the new Tesco's store, or if it was flattened and backfilled entirely.

My own (albeit preliminary) research seems to suggest that it was backfilled, and indeed, google maps of the area do show a lot of construction work in that area around the time it was closed off.

However, I intend to head over there one time this week, for a poke around, but if any people from the Manchester area have thoughts/recollections/photo's of the underground market centre, I'd be pleased to hear from you.

I have fond memories of clothes shopping in the market centre, and have found some images of it on Manchester City Council's website..

It'd be interesting to find a way in, assuming it still exists.
