Can anyone suggest a camera?
I used a Olympus FE-115 for these. I'd really love a Canon Rebel, but it's to pricey for now. I've been looking at a Dimage. I'd just like to have more control, and use some filters (IR). Thanks in advance.

Both of these photos have some strong points and weak points and show great potential.

1) I like the high contrast in this; it matches the mechanical mood this room gives off. The black and white w/ color fusions tend to be overused these days, but it works in this picture. The earth tones of the blackboard along with the white chalk make it a little more subtle then that technique usually is. Composition feels slightly cramped, but it gives a good feel of atmosphere.

2) I think it's a little overexposed being the windows are blown out, however that may be intentional. This shot manages to have great range of warm colors for a room that would ordinarily seem rather dull. The composition is a little boring, as nothing is really instantly eye-catching, but it's still manages to be an interesting shot with the vivid green leaves showing through the windows and the odd placement of an old desk.

I've used both a Digital Rebel XT and a Nikon D50. That said, I currently own a D50 and am in love with it (I guess that's another name for bias). Not only that, but the D50 kit, which comes with a 18-55mm lens, retails for $100 less than the Rebel XT. It'll perform comparably and even better in some aspects as the Rebel XT, and has that sturdy build that Nikon has come to be respected for.

That said, if you're really wanting to have more control, a digital SLR is the direction to go. You'll be much better off saving a while and spending $700 for a fully automatic/fully manual digital camera rather than throwing $400 or $500 down for a high quality point & shoot. Better yet, buy yourself an old film SLR like a Pentax K1000 or the such and practice with that. Learn just how flexible you want your hardware to be, and in turn increase your own flexibilty.

The best advice I can give you though is try the camera out before you buy it. Wolf/Ritz camera I believe lets you try before you buy. Use multiple models and decide on the one that feels best. You'll be happy you did.

Good work and keep it up!
