Some Useful tips

i'm no pro.. I know this but i'm gonna post what i've learned about sneaking around and if anyone has anything else they would like to add please feel free or if you disagree feel free to correct me.

Maglites are great (Very Bright) BUT not near windows.. You can see a maglit from a mile away when youare on an unpstairs level... Try wraping a bandana or sticking the lens through your sleave.. It dulls the light but not to the point where u can see..

Watch Your footing.. Careful where you step look down the odd time so when ur inside a building its not "crunch crunch crunch" of broken glass or "SMASH CRASH" of walking into something..
Theres a lot of talking about what kinda footwear to have on.. Well shoes not boots are my preferance.. But as long as you stay light on your feet (don't stomp).

When you hear or see someone else don't Call out "Hey are you security?" You hear someone you duck and cover.. You don't want strangers tagging along with you nor do you want to tag along with them (they could be the loud drunks we all hate)..

Obviously to most people but not so to others don't wear bright clothing... i mean my god ur sneaking around at night do not wear brightly coloured clothing. (this may seem basic but i've seen lots of bright orange shirts and yellow jackets being worn). Check your shoes... If the have that reflective tape on them for nighttime running DO NOT WEAR THEM. They light up a lot mroe then you think they do...

My god Don't Park infront of the place you plan on going into...Seriously park a block or so away and walk in try to be somewhat inconspicuous (bad spelling).

Don't smoke thats a dead give away of your position! (what more can i say)

Whisper don't yell or talk loud simply whisper.. Turn off your cellphone you don't want a call while ur inside a building hiding from someone..

Bring extra batteries...More then one flashlight, try not to use them outside too easy to spot.

Anything i missed feel free to post..

Maglites are almost the worst thing you can use for UE.
First of all, they're BIG! I have a 2-D cell maglite, and I never bring it along. I did once, and when I was in areas that didn't need to be lit, it was so inconvenient to carry around. And if you gotta climb something, wouldn't it be nicer to have a small light that fits into your pocket so you don't gotta worry about it falling out?
Second, they're not really any brighter than other quality flashlights. My 2-AA maglite is just as bright as the 2-D, and I can put it on a headstrap so it's out of my way leaving both hands free.

Obviously to most people but not so to others don't wear bright clothing... i mean my god ur sneaking around at night do not wear brightly coloured clothing. (this may seem basic but i've seen lots of bright orange shirts and yellow jackets being worn).

This is a good tip, I'm sure it gets overlooked all the time. Both pairs of shoes that I use for UE have bright reflective patches on them. Hockey tape is great for covering this up, as well as for taping down any loose bits of clothing that may snag.

Whisper don't yell or talk loud simply whisper.. Turn off your cellphone you don't want a call while ur inside a building hiding from someone..

The Wraiths use simple FRS radios with ear/mouth pieces. If you've got them adjusted right, you barely have to speak at all to be heard. This allows almost near silence while still being able to communicate at a distance.
Also usefull is the 'call' button (standard on most two-way radios). It can be a great silent way of warning for security, etc... (and it's pretty funny watching Jester instantly dive for cover when accidentally hitting it)

I've posted about things like the little reflectors on shoes before, and about radios and all the other useful stuff... Those call buttons have saved our bacon quite a few times, so a few false alarms are ok by me. Maybe you'll get quicker at disappearin by watchin me, Jolt ;)

About the reflective stuff, I also have a camelbak that I take with me sometimes that has 2 reflective stripes on the back. I just used some strips of electrical tape to fix that right up.

Good idea. If you ever are actually under scrutiny and have people scanning around with lights looking for you, those tiny little reflectors on shoes can give you away.

If your 2AA maglite is as bright as your 2D maglite, get some new D batteries. Some of the 2AA Streamlights and Pelican lights are almost as bright as a D-cell maglite... but not a 2AA maglite.

Maglites aren't bad to carry if you get one of the belt loop/holster things.

I can see not wanting to use a D-Maglite in some ocasions, where you do not require very much light, or you when dont need extra bulk - evading guards, etc. But I think in many cases, they are great. I used a D-maglite on my last drain trip to light up different objects for photos, and it would have taken a year to do the same thing with a AA-Maglite.

Different circumstances and different people call for different equipment.

Well if you see a lot of people wearing them, they're not working then... are they?

Honestly though, if I'm wearing a facemask, I'm going to be skiing or robbing a bank.

I have used masks, but only very very rarely. The cases for use have been; when I was worried about ending up on a security cam video, and when hiding using full camo to not be seen by security spotlights at Riverview. When we do anything with the media, we do cover our faces, just to keep from being recognized on the street...

Another useful thing is that you could make a parabolic ear by taking a metal mixing bowl, tape recorder with a plugin mic and a handle. What you do is take the mic and somehow mount it ten inches away from the middle of the bowl and then add a handle and plug the mic into the tape recorder and there you go you got a parabolic ear now just spray paint it camo and point it where ever you want to hear! You will be able to hear a pin drop from a 1000 feet away! You could use it for a whole bunch of stuff use your imagination! You could use it for listen in on a conversation between two security guards or listen to see if theres someone inside a building, or awhole bunch of other shit!

Well, yeah that would be true if your pan happens to be parabola shaped, and the focus happens to be at ten inches. Also, between the pan and the tape recorder, you'd have one really bulky and awkward device. The ears I have work remarkably well and they're much more convenient.

Yeah the ones i used were called ebonic ear and it worked pretty good but i just thought i would tell people how to make their own, cause most people don't live near a spy gadget store or a army surplus so i firgured i would tell people how to make their own. And most of us carry backpacks so you could just put the recorder in the backpack and plug a set of headphones in or even a jacket pocket put you would still have the ear to conceal! Its not that hard to conceal a 10" x 10" ear and if you are into tool and die you could easily make a fold one! Use your innagination and fool around with it!!

You sure it was ebonic ear? Does it only pick up African American Vernacular English?

Maybe "bionic" ear.

Jeez, my ribs hurt right now from laughing...

I used to have a little toy listening device when I was about 12. It's dish was only about 6 inches across, but it still worked fairly well. But sadly, mine didn't pick up ebonics...
