Save The Lister Block

I want to try and organize a protest to try and help save the Lister.
I want to do something outside of city hall before the 60 days are up on it life.
We cant sit and wait for a decision from the Heritage Minister, we have to do something before then.

The city is going to be using our tax money on this and be paying for premium prices for the office space. Money that should not be going to them. They are paying for the Demo and the building itself with their lease. This is about new offices for the city, when they are getting renovated at city hall, just got a new federal building on Bay st (municipal uses it too). They were offered office space at the old federal building with a much cheaper lease.

I feel that we owe the Lister this, we have been inside her poked and prodded her and some of us have fallen in love with her.

So kinsmen duty calls, the future is now
So stand up like men and drive the enemy in to the sea
Stand up like men and swear a sacred oath upon the green grays of our sires
That you will reclaim what our fore fathers discovered, explored, conquered, settled, built and died for.

Stand up like men and reclaim our soil.
Look towards the stars and proclaim our destiny

DEFEAT NEVER, VICTORY FOREVER.

We must also go out and meet the enemy before he reaches our shores. We must defeat him before he attacks us, before our cities are laid to waste.

The whole lister deal is so skecthy I'm not even gonna get into it. The federal building just got borded up, bet tax dollers are still paying for a non-existent lease there too @ premium.

No the federal building is now privately owned now, and has been offered to them with a cheaper lease rate then whats at the lister.

We must also go out and meet the enemy before he reaches our shores. We must defeat him before he attacks us, before our cities are laid to waste.

There's been a lot of promises of restoration and several death sentences imposed on Lister Block over the past few years - but from recent news reports this one sounds like it just might be the end for the place. Local merchants sound pretty fed up with it all and just want to see it pulled like a bad tooth.

But most of us already realize...there's just no restoring that place. Its fubar'd structurally. The money it'd cost makes it more feasible to just level it and start from scratch.

It'll be a sad day when it finally comes down of course - but I think the writing is really on the wall this time.

You can always tell when you're watching Canadian television - the actors in the show are the same ones doing the commercials.

They built a new one on Bay St. The old one was... old. You know, old by government standards. It is still 30 years newer than the Lister.

I don't think the federal building has been "offered to the city". It IS privately owned, but he isn't offering it to anyone. He is doing his own stuff with it.

I was at the Lister parking lot this morning, and it appears they now have G4S security guards in the parking lot. I didnt speak to him but I think he is there to "protect" the building...

Thats not what the structural reports say, or the other reports that I have.

I don't think the federal building has been "offered to the city". It IS privately owned, but he isn't offering it to anyone.

Thats not what I have been getting from other councilors.

Security? WTF? I will stop by there tomorrow.

Well Bratina has been mixing up his stories with Darko Vranich... so maybe thats why you got that information. I haven't heard the old Federal building being offered up though. I think the NEW one is though.

My bf and I walked around the parking lot a few nights back and some security guy was watching us. He just kinda hung around a few yards behind us watching. We walked right by him holding hands, said hello and was on our way.

Maybe they wanna keep the local crackheads out of Lister that's all. But they could do that it they boarded up the place *properly*....

Nay, it's structurally sound alright: so said the report from the structural engineer.

Was in last night and the place is boarded up tight. That and they are boarding the skylight areas with boards & reinforcing the other areas. I dont think this place is coming down anytime soon.

It is coming down soon. They're just doing all of this to please those who use the argument "you're not even protecting the place". It's to make their argument easier. Thing is they should of done this 7 years ago when they bought it. If they had, we could of looked at restoration much more seriously.

Ha -- so true. I guess theres no common sense. I mean all those knocked out windows on the floors can't exactly be good for the building -- never mind esthetically. I cant find anything which states when its coming down.
