Mass/CT/RI/South VT/NH Tour Help...

Hey y'all,

My trip to TauntonStHosp/Devers was cut short today and I'm feeling rather bummed out. I asked my gf if we could take time off work in a couple weeks and take a tour of worthwhile locations around new england. I'm wondering if anyone can help us plan an itinerary? It just seems like everything is getting turned into condo's or being demo'd...and I can't keep up with whats still there and what isn't. I don't want to miss out on anymore historic places like Danvers and Met...so I'm totally stressed about making the best out of this trip and seeing everything we can. Also, if we're in your area or want to hook up with us...we'd love the company. So we live in Jamaica Plain...part of Boston...and got friends who live in western mass...so northampton is a definite...but where we go from there is pretty much open to CT, East NY?, RI, South VT and NH, and of course the rest of MA. We're both in our mid-late twenties...mature and sane...although we are both dorks and do a lot of laughing, farting, and burping. Very friendly, open-minded, and easy to get along with. Email me if you think you can help us figure out our summer vacation!
Thanks,
Jackson

well maybe i'm missing something...but it didn't look like I could actually get into the old taunton hospital what with the fence...and plus one of the buildings next to the basketball court was in use and people were out. i didn't do any research prior to going there...all i knew was that part of it had suffered from a fire recently...had no clue it was in the middle of a complex of in-use buildings...all I had was an address. i enjoyed walking around the perimeter though...but it was a tease cause its really a beautiful building and I would kill to see the inside. There were some small buildings behind it (maybe shop/mech buildings) with a big dump behind them. I jumped the fence and looked around...but nothing exciting of course. Walked over to what looked like an old mill or something that is behind the hospital and split over both sides of the river. Anyone know what that place was/is? While I was tossing my bag and whatnot into my car a security or undercover cop car pulled up behind mine and they asked me where we were coming from. I didn't appretiate the way they were talking to me. I conveyed to them in more selective words that it was a pretty dumb question since they saw us walking back from the front of the building to the parking lot and that we had clearly just walked around the perimeter since they had full view of one half of the compound. Its not like we were hiding from public view and being sketchy...lol...I'm a freaking design student and was pointing up at certain aspects of the building to my friend. But whatever. It would of been nice to talk to them and ask questions since I didn't know other buildings were still in use by current patients...but they weren't of the friendly kind of folk.

So then we went to Dever's...and I had done reading on the place but hadn't read anything regarding how to approach the site...where to park...etc, etc. So I didn't see any keep out signs at the entrance...but then I wasn't really looking...so I drove right in and went up all the roads before parking on this tiny side road that goes up and around in a small circle. It wasn't visible from the main roads so I thought I was fine. At the top of the circle where I parked there was two small 1br houses...and the remains of a third. We walked around them and then headed down the hill behind them to a big building. But the minute we started to enter that building I heard honking up where I parked my car...so I went back up and a security car was up there. He was really nice though and just said since it was private property that we had to go...he even apologized. I must of had a sad look of disappointment on my face. So we left and I didn't try to go back cause he was all nice and I didn't want to make him be not nice to us by finding us again on the property.

So that was our trip cut short. I was totally sad going back to Boston without seeing everything I really want to find folks to go with who already know their way around and how to avoid security run-ins so I don't waste my time or anyone else's. I feel totally pressured to see everything asap before all these historic places are gone. I was really mad at myself for not doing enough homework...or at least with Devers finding the information that I really needed.

Oh...ps...pardon me...I mindlessly added an S to Dever. If you can get past my typo that would be wonderful.

So whats the best way to approach Dever? I drove around and saw a parking lot for people putting their boats in the water...so could park there but unless its dark Dever's campus is open enough to be seen crossing over on foot to the buildings. Tried to go around and find a way into the campus from the back...but no luck. What's everyone else been doing?

Taunton St. Hosp...I've seen photo's of the interior that people have taken...can you no longer get in without cutting a hole in the fence?

Enlighten me my fellow veteran UE's
