I've been away for awhile - what with moving, finals, and a crazy summer class schedule, I unfortunately haven't had time to do much UEing. But I'm back, and I've got pictures! This is the old marine shop in Norfolk, Virginia. I know this place has been "done" before, but I hadn't seen it yet, and I really wanted to check it out So without further ado, I give you...the Norfolk Marine Shops! click to view click to view Notice anything wrong with these bathrooms? [TWO men's rooms and ONE ladies' room...not fair!!] click to view click to view click to view Yes, that tree has actually grown up from the INSIDE of the building! click to view click to view Sorry about the graininess here. I didn't have a flash with me. click to view click to view click to view This is the inside of one area of the building. click to view click to view click to view These bricks are on the outside of the building. They look as though they have been corroded by something. click to view click to view click to view click to view click to view click to view This is an overgrown lot between two of the buildings. Look carefully and you can see the clipper ship out on the river. click to view The following series are the street-facing doors of the some the old shops. There is some very interesting artwork on some of them. click to view click to view click to view click to view click to view click to view This place is huge. I saw most of it, but didn't get to spend as much time poking around as would have liked because there was somebody else in there. It looks as though it has been abandoned for many years, as evidenced by the full-grown trees and shrubbery on the inside of the building. This place offers an interesting contrast - on the front side of it is a busy street with other companies and construction, but in the rear of it is still and quiet, with nothing going on. Being an average joe type member I can only see demolished sites nothing else in the site search. Rational thought is kind of like Betamax.
