I have seen closed off entrances.....now whether or not they go to abandoned lines or tunnels, I am unsure. I thought I remember reading somewhere a few years back that they went to a below ground "mini mall" of sorts. It does sound interesting though.

I wouldn't mess around with the tunnels in metro, if you get caught you'll be in a world of hurt.

The link in that other thread (pasted below) was pretty cool and had some interesting info about DC and underground stuff.

i would be careful in cities like DC and NYC. after 9-11, things have gotten tighter and charges more serious. i have a friend who works for the metro secret police terrorist task force in DC. i can ask him, but i'm sure he will say it's not the best idea. it sounds quite interesting, but might be better to avoid unless you're dying of boredom and have nothing else left to explore in the area.

That's very true. I recently moved from the DC area and I can tell you that after 9/11, the police there got really jumpy about any kind of shady-looking characters prowling around. DC Underground is in a high-traffic area of DC with a lot of police. The only entrances are in an extremely visible area right next to one of the busiest intersections in the city. [I'm probably only making people more interested in it...] And all it is is what amounts to an underground strip mall. So all in all...not recommended.

The lines are most likely not related to Metro. Metro never dug up anything it didn't intend to use.

Besides, I've been down in the tunnels. It's part of my job. Guess who I work for. ;)
