Hey MayPost...remember that copperhead you almost stepped on at "you weren't there. I wasn't there" ? And then there was that pitbull in the basement of a hospital in BMore. We had to barricade it in a room. On the way out the 2 Dans and I pulled the barricade down with a long length of firehose. Gave us a bit of a lead on the dog, in case we needed it.

Yeah that shit was crazy! I missed his head by like less than an inch! And then you played Croc hunter with it. I had no idea that copperheads could hiss so loud.

Do you remember the Bald eagle we saw take off right in front of us at that same place?

Exploring is like tattoos... They stopped being cool in 2005

Speaking of copperheads I'm pretty sure I saw another one sitting in the sun at Centralia last Saturday, but this one was full grown.

Walking down a road on the old base a few weeks ago, we heard a rustling in the woods nearby. At first we thought it was someone else exploring, but when we looked closer we saw a whole family of foxes, about 50 feet off the road! There was a mom and two or three baby foxes. They just sat and stared at us for a minute or two before disappearing into a foundation wall [where their den was, I guess]. It was the cutest thing. Wish I could've gotten pics but I didn't want to scare them with my loud 35mm SLR.

I found a puppy yesterday while I was exploring. Awwwwwwww! She was so cute, I wanted to take her home, but I didn't think my two dogs would have liked it very much.

I figured out what's wrong with life:
It's other people.

They're pretty cool to watch when they have kits. Very intelligent, playful, but wary of humans.

Aw man I wish I could see some foxes. Foxes are one of the cutest animals ever, after red pandas of course, which you don't see wild so there goes that chance.
Um. We saw an owl yesterday in the prison. He kept swooping from one end of the room to the other. We kept thinking he was gonna dive bomb us whenever he got close, but he was just scared of us and I don't think he knew how to get out of the room.
We saw lots and lots of dead bird corpses/bones, too, but I don't guess that counts.

Very cool! You rock girl! Ya got a devil owl pic! I like that shot, much harder to get than one might imagine. If you think he's trapped, see that he's rescued.
Foxes tend to like grassy fields boarding wooded areas. The will live near to humans, and this is not that uncommon. They are shy, and wary of humans though. Yeah, they're smart! I've seen them a lot latter in the day towards dusk.

They will avoid you if they see you, so if you come across them, don't try to get too near. At a distance they will tolerate your presence, slowly sit down and enjoy. Kits are playful, and fun to watch.

I know, it was a decent size gray first, being in the middle of the city I thought it was a red upon first glance, but luckily, it had the black tip on the tail instead of the white. Beautiful fox, was just glad it didn't scream at us and attract attention.

I was up in the rafters at a local hospital and my friend had a huge bird take off right next to his face and fly out the window. The wing span had to be about 4 feet? We saw it flying around later and confirmed that it was some type of eagle. Pretty neat. it scared my friend shitless and we happened to be walking on a really unstable, cracked, wooden beam.

I used to do a whole lot of "rural" exploration as a lad. I lived in the middle of nowhere in PA. My absolute worst encounter with an animal was being bitten by a copperhead. Yeah, it was my fault, as i was trying to catch it. I was maybe 12ish at the time, and my mum used to yell at me all the time for catching snakes, so I didn't tell her that I got bit. I felt like I was dying for 3 days. But, it was cool, because I did catch it! (That leaves only the Timber Rattler and the Massassaugua Rattler for me to complete the PA snake roundup)
My happiest encounter with a wild animal has to be my pet raccoon, Coony (I didn't realize the name could have racial implications, I was like 4 or 5 ) My dad was clearing some trees, and he cut one down that had baby racoons in it. The mother never came back, and they all died but one. Having a pet raccoon is sort of like having a befriended feral cat. It loved the hell out of me, but it attacked anyone else that got near it, or it's food. We released it into the wild after about a year and a half of my family being terrorized.

Reality is just a crutch for those who can not deal with their own fantasies.

You know, I've always been terrified that I'm going to happily mince into a location to find a dog who has staked the area out as it's own, and who will have no problems attacking me. So it's all the more... not... reassuring, to hear of an incident in B-more with a dog. Whoo!

I've found birds, who have scared the hell out of me flying from rafters, the occasional cool-looking bug, dead turtles, and my favorite- a family of three grown deer (all female) walking through the middle of my favorite location at dusk about a month ago. To look from the buildings to see these giant, terrified creatures amid the ruins was pretty impressive.

Get down, girl, go 'head, get down.
