| | | Wonderland mall Michigan PART 2 < on 6/9/2006 8:17 PM >
| | | I posted a thread last week about the abandoned mall across from where I work, today I saw the crews start in on the auto center that was out front of the mall. I drove around and took some pictures, then I noticed some other dozers and backhoes in back of the mall. I asked if they were gonna start on the mall and they said "Monday". "Well" I thought, "I gotta get in there now then". As I pondered a possible way in, I wondered why don't I just ask. The workers pointed me in the direction of their forman and surprisingly allowed me in. As much as I enjoy covert operations, this was the far less stressful way to explore the place. The hitch was I wasn't allowed in very long so I had to hurry. As I jogged along and shot pictures I noticed a sign from hallmark and the "A" from Boardwalk café, now I don't usually take things from my trips but since this place is being demolished I grabbed them both. I also cleared this with the forman before I took my prizes home. The funny thing is the Target store that was connected to the mall is still open, and the sign that is only seen from the inside of the old mall is still on. Now if you think back a few years there was a lady that claimed her son had been kidnapped in a mall, but I think it was later discovered that she was lying and had said that to cover her murderous tracks. The reason I mention it of course is, this was that mall.

When I was in grade school this was one stop my folks used to make every August for back-to-school clothing. It was also a popular destination for Canadian bargain hunters year round, although increasing exchange rates put an end to that. Great trip down memory lane. Thanks! BTW whatever became of the "PACE" building? I remember in the late '80s you had a better chance of running into your neighbours/friends/etc. at the Pace membership store than you did on the streets of downtown Windsor!
