| | | i don't suppose there's a way to get the non-torrented files? my net connection goes through my university, and they ban accounts for torrent downloads. if not, i'll continue wait with baited breath (or ask somebody with a cable modem to do it for me)

Are you kidding me? I thought they were so horribly hokey. I couldn't even take the "urban climbers" seriously. We already knew they had full permission to go in, so it's pretty obvious the "missions" and gathering intel from locals were pretty scripted. The part that killed me the most was when they were in the anchor bar in Buffalo, and asking people where concrete central was. That would be like asking Chicagoans where the Sears tower is, or torontonians where the CN Tower is, it's that freaking obvious. And, who the hell uses a polaroid camera to explore with?
WTF indeed. |

| | | Some of the historical facts about the buildings in question were interesting though... like the electronic luggage carrying system in the tunnels of BCT. Though I only watched the one episode, it was too much for me to watch the others.

| | | Timmy did kind of get shafted in the show's final edit... he's actually a truly hilarious guy, but most of his humor is far to raunchy for television so they ended up editing out most of the truly funny shit (but during the shooting he really did have us laughing our asses off plenty of times.) anyone who's inclined to dismiss him as merely a funny guy though should check out his record.... http://outside.awa...es/20011022_1.html is a start. For anyone who's not familar with the Nose route... i'm generally speaking fairly proud of my climbing abilities, and i'm not sure if i could do it at all, even with better climbers to do most of the leading; but if i could, it would be a week or more on the rock. So i have a lot of respect for timmy... But anyone who's ever made it up El Cap in less than a week-- or anyone who's ever free-soloed 5.10 or above-- feel free to criticize him, and i won't say a thing...

I Go Where The Drains Are
| | | Re: Urban Explorers TV show - Torrent <Reply # 57 on 6/21/2006 8:21 PM >
| | | I thought it was a good show. The only thing that let it down was simply that it was produced for Discovery Channel. This alone guarantees: loads of recaps, heaps of over-dramatics, a booming voiceover, much psuedo excitement and all the other hokey elements that make up most of Discoveries documentaries. The 'missions', while a maybe a bit daft, got the job done in that they gave structure to the explorations... I mean who'd want to watch a bunch of people wandering randomly around a building making random comments with no real intent. Beyond that they couldnt have done a better job. The bunch of you were charismatic and you got the job done, the locations were a good mix of 'real' sites and psuedo live sites. And Undercity, your a goddam champ for just blowing them all off and exploring that drain in Pittsburgh. I fuckin loved that. It really showed you to be the only real explorer of the bunch, the way you actually went out n found something cool beyond the shows boundaries... plus it looked like a fuckin sweet drain. Noice! well, I guess if you have a full camera crew from Discovery Channel tagging along with you on your "mission" then carrying a 35mm is pretty much redundant. I got really exited when the show aired (Discovery is one of only 3 or 4 English language channels we get over here) but after a couple of episodes it did get a little hokey.
