Question about Baltimore school (?)

I just got back from a D.C. trip with the family. I hate interstates, so I insisted that we take US 1 to Philly and back. We got lost in Baltimore along the route. We just kept going straight until we ended up in this fairly rundown neighborhood.

Along this road (I don't think it was Rt 1; I'm sure it made a turn but we didn't), I saw a beautiful brick school (?), surrounded by all these burnt out and boarded up rowhouses. The building was pretty big and the inscription on it read something about 1867 and being rebuilt in 1871. I remember green trim or something green surrounding the windows.

We couldn't take a picture because it was getting too dark and frankly, the neighborhood was a bit on the scary side. I would've loved visiting it during the day, though.

Does anyone know what this building is, has anyone explored it, and does anyone have pictures of it? I'm sorry I don't have any more info.

By the way, I am fascinated by Baltimore. That is one eerie city. I saw mystery at every turn.

Thanks for any answers you can provide!

I've been doing more research and think I've discovered what the building was... and old brewery. How very interesting. I discovered it on a very good site about Baltimore urban exploration. I believe the site owner also frequents this board.

I'm planning another trip to Baltimore soon.

It could also be an old all-girls school that was shut up about 7 years ago. Supposedly, it will be reopened in a couple of years as a Catholic school for inner-city kids. It was mentioned in a City Paper article a week or two ago. It's near North Ave. (which Rte. 1/Bel Air Rd. dumps into), and that neighborhood (where HBO's The Wire is filmed) is kind of scary.
