| | | Fett and I just got back from a pretty sweet trip. He uncovered info on an old rock-wool mine in Easley, MO. So, after a lot of hiking and a bit of acrobatics, we finally located it. It's not real deep, maybe a few hundred feet, and when it was still public, people from MU would have "blanket parties" in it, so there's lots of old beer bottles and trash, and a little graffiti. The air was full of fine dust (a tad worrisome...) and it kept messing up my flash, plus my lack of tripod made pictures difficult, but heres a few.

| | | Hey, nice spot! Good to see another mine buff on the board.
I have changed my personal exploring ethics code. From now on it will be: "Take only aimed shots, leave only hobo corpses." Copper scrappers, meth heads and homeless beware. The Jonsered cometh among you, bringing fear and dread. |

| | | Turns out rock-wool can be slightly irritating to the skin, lungs, and eyes. We didn't experience any problem, but the only precaution we took was dust mask. I showered well and washed my clothing and gear just to make sure though. I would caution anyone attempting the mine to wear long pants and gloves in addition to the mask.

| | | In relation to Easley we're thinking about heading out to Providence, Mo (a few miles north of Easley on the river. Providence used to be the port on the Missouri River for Columbia, MO. Now it's a ghost-town. I've checked out plat-books for it, and it used to be quite the boom town. A wooden-plank road of the same name as the town used to run from Columbia to Providence, but was abandoned when the town was, however with a map a and a little sense of direction one can still trace the road all the way from Columbia's providence road (a major thoroughfare through town) through Rock Bridge State Park all the way to the River.

where im from, a "blankie party"..was reserved for the a$$holes in the neighborhood. ie; you and you're friends tossed a blanket over said a$$ so he couldnt see who was learnin' 'em..and then you learned 'em, real good if need be. interesting how an innocent comment in one area has such a totally different meaning somewhere else. Ps. in case someone decides to totally go off on me by jumping to conclusions, i never personally participated.
