Drains in northern Virginia.

These are some amazing drains, not too far from the base. The first drains I have been in that you can stand up in. You had to raft half way untill it got shallow enough to walk in. At the end of each tunnel was a huge waterfall coming from the ceiling. The tunnels all led to a lake drain.

Yeah I have to find another cool one. Oh and I forgot to comment about the gigantic turtle, it was almost 2 feet long. Scared us so badly at first, the thing looked prehistoric.

I used to live in Manassas in the late '80s.. there was a couple drains around that I remember scoping out as a kid.

http://maps.google...5445,0.012842&om=1

That one was built in '87.. there is a a spill shaft at the north end of the pond that must lead somewhere.. I peeked into it when it was still under construction (and the retention pond was empty) and there was a few RCP's at the bottom of the shaft, running north and south I think.. so it connects to more than just that pond.

http://maps.google...02723,0.006421&t=h

And if you look here you'll see 3 cul-de-sacs.. There was a creek running through the middle of them that came from 2 storm drain exits just slightly south.. 5' or 6' RCP I recall. after the exit, the creek ran to the north through what used to be unused land.. but as you can see it is all in the process of being developed, and I don't see any water flowing..so they must have replaced where that creek ran with more drains? It had a decent flow.. Maybe it's just dry right now.

I havn't been there in a decade or two, so I may be fuzzy, but it's something for you NoVA guys to chew on at least. If you check it out and find something interesting let me know how it goes.

Snapping Turtle. They are fine, just don't stick your fingers near them, and if you pick them up, keep them at arms length, they'll try to bite your leg (experience talking)
