High Cliff State Park

a very nice hiking and camping site in northeast wisconsin, im posting this because there are ruins of a limestone operation in this park, nothing too fancy, but in the 1800's they used to mine limestone out of the cliffs, bake it in kilns and load it on to rail cars and barges, the DNR brough the land in the 1970's (i think) and instead of tearing the ruins down they just left them as they were.

take a walk in these woods and your bound to find something, these are photos of stuff on one of the main paths, some time later ill post photos of stuff in other parts of the park, off the trails

Very sweet! You should take some time and document the entire park. Sounds like there may still be some cool finds around there.

im going to do that, i started last year with my gps, i found a steam engine hidden in the trees and part of another one used as a hoist at the bottom of a cliff right above the water, there are also the ruins of a water control system that you can find if you follow a steam down the cliffs

I remember seeing those as a kid. My dad and I went up there one winter to camp. One of the few parks allowing winter camping. I would love to go back. Keep posting what you find.

We used to camp here every year when we went to the packer game. I think we're staying somewhere else this year, sadly. I never took any pictures, or explored too much. Maybe I'll have to make a trip back.

I'd have to say High Cliff is one of the better parks we have. That's where I first learned to be a Beer Commando when I was like 5 or 6.

I drink gasoline for breakfeast and beer for dinner!

PM sent about a day hike thing.
