| | | Hearn in Toronto was pretty big... as was Stelco though. The Toronto Power Company Generating Station in Niagara Falls is also huge, but not in land size... it has really deep sub basement levels. I think 250 feet or something. If I could of gotten into Lakeview it probably would of beaten them all. [last edit 5/27/2006 2:01 AM by Stewie - edited 1 times]

Don't they have huge drainage tunnels that empty out into the back of the Horseshoe falls from the cooling subbasement? I recall seeing pictures, the drains were about 20 feet high. Assuming they don't drain millions upon millions of tons of water onto you, it'd be a pretty neat place to explore.

... I just put down places I've been to. I've never been to the US, same with most people that are around here. I'm sure if they had visited the places you'd mentioned or seen them in the db, they would of done just that. [last edit 5/27/2006 8:18 PM by Stewie - edited 1 times]

Whitby Psych is pretty much gone. If I recall, there's only one or two buildings left standing.

| | | This is currently the biggest Scottish abandonment just west of Glasgow weighing in at an impressive 11 square miles!! puts TZ's Hospital sightly in the shade. It's also GPS territory in there if you don't wanna get really lost.

Yeah, Sharon and I checked that one out - the idea of a stiff jail term for Criminal Trespass on Military Property didn't appeal (Although, it didn't stop us at ICI Irvine) to us much though. One thing about that abandonment G - it doesn't really count until someone has been inside it and it's also a bit off topic as this is a thread about the biggest building! Looks f--ing ACE though, keep us in the loop on how that one progresses matey! (I'd come check it with ya' if you get some dates sorted!) Chris... PS: On the Scottish front, look out for some very interesting locations to be announced soon... We got in somewhere we haven't been able to in years last week! We all had ostriches. My dad had an ostrich farm! I remember one day someone came in and said the high altitude bombing of Kosovo had been a limited success, so we all went out and celebrated… by killing an ostrich and boiling it in kiwi fruit. |

TPC doesn't have a basement per say but rather a 176 foot deep pit. Water flows from the intakes at the top of the falls, down fairly large penstocks, through the turbines at the bottom of the pit, and out into the Niagara River behind the falls. The pipes at the bottom of the pit are the tailraces (~20 feet) that carry water back to the Niagara River. While you can get so far down into pit at some risk to life and limb, no one has ever made it to the bottom yet (too dangerous) and getting into the tailraces is probably impossible. There's a rough plan view of the plant here: http://www.vanishingpoint.ca/tpco.html

Their coverage of the Ontario Power Company Generating Plant made me want to check it out so badly.. but I hear it's dangerous getting down there. I'd always wondered it looked like.. and the fact that's untouched by graffiti is amazing.

I've never been inside either plant, but OPC GS should be far less dangerous than TPC GS.
