| | | Just took a drive out there and it looks like a major investigation is going on, so much so that I didn't feel like sticking around. As you can tell from the pics the central wing of admin is just a bit more than a shell. There is a crane on the front lawn pulling roof timbers while inspectors go over them one by one. Looks like a serious investment of equipment and manpower.

you just missed me babe. i was there from 1-3pm. i met a local kid who i really knowledgeable about the place. he will be joining up here soon. he will get more updates for us as he is very close to the location. the crane was bashing down all of admin. i asked the workers if they intended to take down the buildings right next to it, and they were not yet sure. that was yesterday, so who knows what could have happened today. lately there have been so many fires. i can't stand it. cheers.

Fuck! It better have been lightning is right! If not I'll chipped in for the capture reward. It appears to have started near the center of the building, and it had working lightning rods, right? Grrrrrrrrr.

| | | Wow, first post... Local kid here, mentioned above. I work at Caribou Coffee, literally down the road from Rosewood, and have lived across the woods from the place for the last year and a half. I'm surprised this didn't happen sooner, but I'm no less pissed about it. One of the volunteer firefighters that was there came into my work after having been there for the better part of the day on Monday. He said he doesn't think that they'll take the whole building down, just the left wall that's unstable. From what he said and what I saw yesterday, that seems rather accurate, though I won't be back till tomorrow. I'll post more when I find more, hopefully through the locals that come in to get their daily coffee. For now, here's something to look at: www.seaofstorms.com/rosewood That's the site my girlfriend and I started about a year ago. We haven't updated in a while, but there's a decent amount of pictures. From the recent events and the rising security, who the hell knows when or if we'll be back.

I swear, I'll update the site soon. Right now I'm thinking of making a memorial page at the beginning. I was on my morning commute to DC (from the B-more area) when I heard, at 7am, the news that Rosewood was burning. Or rather, had burned. I was in tears. I love that place and held so much respect for it, its grounds, its former residents. And now my favorite building, its tacky chandeliers, its pink curtains, its red carpeted stairs.... gone... Femaledragonx... pleasure a once-removed acquaintance. And if the fire started in the basement, as current presumptions from the grounds, firefighters and such seem to imply, I'm doubting it was lightning. I've spent hours on those grounds, in the bowels of its buildings... it will be missed.
Get down, girl, go 'head, get down. |

| | | Wow! Thanks for adding the photos. It's hard to view Rosewood in this state. It is unfortunate that you didn't get a chance to explore the campus before this. There is something unique about the place. It has its own character. Thanks again! [last edit 5/25/2006 7:06 AM by GotPaisley! - edited 1 times]

i hope that once things settle i can go check it out. maybe even get permission if i act professional enough. it would be a nice change. of course, now that i know a bunch about this place, i am fascinated. how ironic and unfortunate that it burnt down less than 12 hours before i got there....life isn't fair sometimes. to everyone who is going to shoot pics of the damage-the security/cops were total jerks once the crane guys were gone. they didn't bother me when the crane guys were around, and the crane crew and fire department people were very nice to me. though they didn't let me too close (of course, since there was falling rubble) but didn't mind me taking pics from a distance. so if you are planning on going, try to go when they are working on the demo, and then beat feet when they leave unless you like mean, cranky, screaming cops and security. i really found the yelling to be unnecessary. i absolutely was planning to leave the minute i was asked to. screaming was not needed to motivate my departure. i would also suggest getting in touch with my new buddy since he's close by and has an ear to the ground at his coffee shop job.

| | | Well I just got off work and took a drive through the complex, and it's not pretty. They're still there with the crane, 3 days now, and all that's left of the building is the far right side. That's it. The rest is rubble. It's tragic. Not only is most of the entire building now gone, it's nearly impossible to get close to it anymore. All small access roads that lead up to the front buildings from the front and from behind are blocked with either vehicles or orange barrels. They don't want anyone going anywhere near it. Can't blame them in a way, since there is undoubtably a whole lot of asbestos floating around in the air now. But still. I have a feeling it's gonna be next to impossible to get in anymore. I didn't try walking up, since I didn't have a camera on me, I figured it wasn't worth the risk. I work the next three days though, so I'll keep checking and try to get some new pics. It's terribly depressing.

| | | Well, it's been nearly a week and the main building, formerly known as Rosewood, is gone.
Notice that big flagpole in the middle of the picture? That stood directly in front of the admin building, to give you an idea of the scope. All that's left is rubble. The building you see in the picture is actually an addition to the main building that was connected to the back.
Same view, different angle. Here you can see the above mentioned building on the right, and the smaller building with the glass breezeway on the left.
Shit like this blocks you from getting anywhere near the abandoned stuff. And finally, some before and after:
