| | | | Suggestion for the Location DB < on 10/27/2003 7:53 PM >
| | | You may or may not have noticed, the LDB is getting rather large. This, in and of it's self is not a bad thing. It does, however, make navigation difficult. The five minutes of scrolling to get to the bottom could easily be alleviated. I would like to recomend that the LDB have a Windows Explorer (without the BSOD please type branch view. If there is a new location added, or one is updated, the associated branch would be automaticaly expanded. Thank you for your time. [last edit 10/27/2003 7:54 PM by Snarg - edited 1 times]

| | | I like the idea. Have arrows next to the major divisors (country/state/providence/etc.) that have a colored code dot next to them to indicate what lay within. when you click on the arrow, it opens to show the contents.

| | | Doing a branch expanding thing is rather complicated, I'm probably just gonna have a 3-clicks-to-view mode when it becomes necessary: First you click the country, then the province, then the city, and all of the locations in that city are shown. For now it's not that bad.

State? Is that, like, what you call provinces in the USA? Wierd. I like that map idea, too. There are a lot of different ways you could implement it, as well. Either a series of drop-down menus, a graphic, or something like what ATI uses on their support website. You select an item from one listbox, and then the listbox next to that fills up with a new listing specific to what the first item chosen was. I might try something like that for my own site. C.

"Province" is a generic term used by many countries. Only the silly americans use the word "State". You know, it's probably good that this DB is not run out of the US. If it were, chances are it would only support american locations because "canada is somewhere down near mexico" and "USA is the biggest country in the world". Also, the website would get shut down by the "patriot" act.

| | | Yeah Av-X, and all Americans are 400-pound, foreigner-hatin', 200-guns-havin' trailer park trash. Sure, there's probably a lot of Americans that think Manitoba is a disease. But I'd imagine there's also a number of Canadians that think Nebraska is a frozen dessert. Not everyone in Canada is that stupid, nor is everyone in the US. Don't generalize about Americans and I won't generalize about Canadians, fair enough? Although I do agree about the PATRIOT act. Orwellian law at its finest...

| | | Canada has serious 1st and 2nd ammendment issues (yes I know these don't actually apply to Canada, but they represent certain freedoms that are universal). I rarely critisize another country unless mine doesn't even compare with their problem. I have an idea for the location database: Make the city name a link, or put an "info" link out beside it. That way people can get some general info on the city too. And also a "_____ Explorers" link out beside the state/province. The link would display some pertinent info about the explorers in that state. Since people put funny things in their profiles, they'd have to "sign up" in the LDB under that state.

| | | I think the dbase is fine the way it is . The only problem I have had is that there is no way to back up to the location listing itself. Instead you have to back up through 500 pics just to get to the dbase itself. I know Av has suggested using the "return to the main location page" function. However, hitting "back " doesnt' take you to the database where you left off , you are stuck backing up through the pics again. The only solution is to click the location db button, then scroll down through every location until you get to where you were. I'm not internet savvy but it seems like you should be able to back out to the dbase where you left off. Given the growing size of the dbase, it makes sense. Isn't there some cookie that would allow the browser to put you at the last veiwed location. Or am I the only one annoyed by this? Thanks.
I got your tour winner right here pussies, at least he'd crash out trying. |

I'm sorry sir, but you have a severe case of manitoba and an acute case of Kebec. Here's a bottle of British Columbia to be taken when Yukon. Seskatchewan (?) all you want, but do it in Ontario. I'm dumb, it's late and now there are 500 angry Canadians coming to kill me. Isn't life peachy? Samurai
