Kúpele Centrál (Central baths of Bratislava)

Since 2001 I occasionally explore some interesting places of my city. This was the first object I ever explored. Now when I got a camera I decided to catch atmosphere of this fast disappearing place and object of my city. Since 2000 Bratislava experience one of greatest building booms in its history. I’ve much objects to explore and few time to do it. So i joined this website to hare my photos and experiences as a first urban explorer of Slovakia.

Baths:
Located 3 km from city core. Abandoned since fall of communism. Reason: Expenses and problems with pool construction.

We and my good friend entered by hollow in the fence and continued by main entrance, taken photos of ground floor, than first and second sub-floor. The most impressive were concrete columns supporting big pool and AC breakers (not in photo set, maybe later). Than we got to the pool (have 360 panorama in my archive) and it was great. That moment the sun has risen from beyond the clouds and the huge glass wall didn’t block it. I would have been great if it were still in use. There we met some writers who were guarding their mates against the cop thread. They asked us who we are and what we are doing there, I said we are UE and they have never heard about Urban exploration, but the same situation is in each part of Slovakia. After enjoying the atmosphere of the pool and surrounding spaces we tried to find a wooden ladder to the roof but it was already carious, so we used the lightning conductor fastened to the brick wall. That way took us into thin space between two glass walls. Nice place but really thin. We climbed out of there onto service stage under the roof and we realized that also second of the ladders is gone. Just three meters under manhole cover of the roof!! I was really angry. And at that time I aw rusted very dangerously looking holders and I climbed on the iron construction and secured the carbines there. After that my friend made emergency rope ladder. On the roof we enjoyed times of sunshine observing, taking photos and sunbathing. Finally the time to go down has come and we decided to use rope to climb down to the pool. Without any assurance we crawled on the ventilation pipe 15 meters (49 feet) above the concrete pool and secured the rope. Friend went first and I followed him but we share some climbing equipment o it took pretty long time. As I was binding me to the rope, we have seen three writers running for their lives. For doing illegal street art you can be thrown into jail for several months. I had really bad feeling of that. Friend checked it out and we were right – cops. I got down a fast as I could but it was too late. Cops watching rope falling from the roof, were just wondering and than they finally asked us what are we doing there and if we know that it is private property. Seeing not any stolen thing and sprays they let us go wishing us to enjoy the day and advising to find work as a window cleaner of skyscrapers. We had big luck that day. I could have had much worse end that day. I made some photos of graffiti until my batteries got depleted. With low cameras we left our favorite abandonment.
