Clifton Sanitarium?

I'm not sure how old most of the crowd is here but I just have to bring this up. Back in the 90's there was a place in Clifton off of Compton road that was supposedly an old abandoned "Sanatarium". It was on Compton road in between Clifton Road and Union Mill. The actual entrance was at what is now the intersection of Compton Road and Balmoral Forest Road (I figure since the place is long gone it's ok to talk about exact location). Back when it existed it was a dirt "road", which when you turned onto it went back through the trees and brush which was very thick back then. If you followed it for a little while you would eventually come up to a pretty large building. It was a two floor building which was very badly vandalized. There were also several other smalling buildings scattered about here and there. If you kept on going on the main path you would eventually make it out to the power lines that go through the area. A bunch of friends and I used to go out there occasionally. Sometime during the day...othertimes in the middle of the night. It was a very interesting place. Eventually one day we went back there and all of the buildings were torn down and in ruins. I guess that was when they were getting ready to clear the area out to make way for the houses that are now in the area. Anyways, if anyone else knows of the place I'm talking about and knows exactly what it was, it would be great to hear about it.

Think I found my own answer. http://www.nationa...Fairfax/state.html

Looks like it was used to stick people with measles while they were contagious. At least thats what I would imagine they would be using it for considering its name was "Measles Fort".

---Update---

Ok so instead of making another post, I'm just going to update this one. After checking a map...the road it references and a couple of other articles that reference the fort and it's location leads me to believe that is NOT in fact what I'm talking about. Everthing I read says that the fort is located at Balmoral Greens...which is further down the road. So I still am not sure what it was.

The only thing I know of in Balmoral is an old Confederate Earthworks...most of the 600 acres around the estates is all Parkland, donated by the developers.

Haven't heard anything about a building though.

Edit - Ya, thats it, the key point that gave it away---

Current Sub-function: Forest

Dunno why its called Fort Measles, maybe everyone there got measles. But its nothing exciting, just a bunch of old earthworks that are half eroded, plus, County will assume your a relic hunter if your caught there. I know you know this isn't the spot, but just want to say exactly what it is for those wondering, it has a cool misleading name.
