Abandoned Beach House, Turks & Caicos Islands

Well, this one isn't as interesting as the ship, but it does have a neat angle. My best friend grew up on this island, and once lived in this house for a few years. It's a bit of an oddity, having originally been two small houses. At some point, someone stitched them together with a large, central room. It has apparently been abandoned for at least 2 years now.

The most intriguing thing about this, is that someone would leave a place with a view like this to rot... I couldn't even imagine.

These metal braces hold up the supports for the back patio. They're getting very flaky and rusty. I thought it looked pretty cool against the background. Looks better in gigantic, high res version.

The back porch, looking southwest-ish. Those big drain pipes off the roof lead to a big cistern tank to provide water for the house. It was full of mosquito larvae I didn't bother photographing.

This castle thing is an artifact from the days Columbus was rumored to explore this island. Either that, or someone built it for their kid to play on.

Rainbow over an abandoned house. Good times. The ship is visible in the distance, a white dot on the horizon. Just out of sight is another wrecked boat I'll get to later.

I'm so awesome. It's kind of ridiculous, really.

The same spot, a few hours earlier in the day. The ship looks dark against the horizon at this point.

The living room. Like I said, this space connects what used to be two smaller, freestanding houses.

Behind where I was in the last photo, you can spot the most retarded placement of an electrical outlet ever. According to my friend, the fridge was actually plugged in there.

There has been a fan malfunction in the master bathroom. Also, you have the mandatory toilet picture.

We were going to come back with lanterns and coolers and have a party here, but it never happened.

A sad looking house, decay will be fast in this climate and proximity to the sea.

This generator thing was in a shed. I think it looks like a Lister engine, but I may be wrong. Whatever it is, it's probably siezed into a solid lump anyway. There were a shitload of wasps in the shed, and I wasn't wearing a shirt... so I said to hell with it.

Looking straight out from the patio. How could anyone abandon this?

Just down the beach was this wrecked Haitian Sloop. Illegals come over on these things to find work on the island. It probably had at least 20 people on it at some point. The boat is all handmade, and hand painted with all sorts of scenes and religious stuff.

I don't know how long it's been here, but it's actually in decent shape. I'd guess a year or so.

As you get closer, you can see this is a pretty roughly-hewn bit of work. Not bad, considering what they probably had to work with.

That's right, that broken bit of PVC pipe was once the mast. Why not?

You'd be sucking up to Jesus too, if you were going to said over a hundred miles on a boat like this with a PVC mast.

The hold underneath was pretty cool. It's full of water and sandbags.

Well, that's all I have to say about that I guess. The sailboat was cool and all, but I don't think it was worthy of it's own post. It was just a warm-up to the ship for me, after all. ;)

I'm so awesome. It's kind of ridiculous, really.

Another great one. I can't imagine letting a house like that rot either. To heck with a party, just take some construction equipment and an new generator down there and live in the darned place. The owners probably wouldn't even know *grin*.

Thanks again.

Cheers

Man that Generator sure went to hell in all that salt air!

Nice pics... The outlet does seem a bit odd.

In my experience a lot of times the type of people that can afford and have houses like that on the beach aren't always reputable people. I've seen my fair share amazing places that get caught up in police seizures, etc. and rot away in a year or so.

Everyone has a dark side, mines just a little more illuminated.

Another nice set of pics. What a beautiful location to be exploring!

I have changed my personal exploring ethics code. From now on it will be: "Take only aimed shots, leave only hobo corpses." Copper scrappers, meth heads and homeless beware. The Jonsered cometh among you, bringing fear and dread.
