| | | | Yeah, the gyrocompass would make sense. It was in an interior room toward the rear of the ship, it was really dark in there so I didn't get a good look. I was lucky enough to get a friend to take us out there, but I was waaay more interested than the other people. I could've spent all day there, but I only got about an hour and a half.
Turd, the floors in some areas are wood, and they are getting a bit dodgy. I was very wary of this, seeing that the nearest hospital was a few miles by boat, then at least 10 miles by car after that. The nearest GOOD hospital was in Miami. I give this thing about another 2 years before getting around becomes really dangerous...

I'm sure the quality of the meals that came out of that galley was no better than your local greasy spoon, but on the open sea, they got ya by the balls, eat their food or nothing at all!

| | | | When you work on a boat, especially one like that, you are so busy you are lucky to get time to even sit down for a meal, much less a good one. As long as it is decent food with some nutritional value, it gets scarfed down. And I agree that kitchen probably looks like the kitchens of 20% of the places you currently eat at, especially in the islands.

*** First of all, about character encoding !
There's some cyrillic characters on the post, so maybe changing the char set encoding you could see it properly. If not, I'm sorry. I hope you can follow my explanation.
I'm afraid I'm not able to guess what is that apparel exactly, because there is a lot of abbreviations and it could be anything. I suppose that some sort of technical terms in russian. Just sure that the brand is "SIGNAL", so starting from the top left corner of the pic that's what I found:
Then, below that there is a kind of speaker, and below, there is a rounded wheel that says "громк.", that's the abreviation of "громкоÑти", transliterated it would be "gromkosti" and means 'volume'. That has to be a control of the volume of the speaker on the top.
Then, the first switches and indicators next to the speaker (2 lights, one little round pushbutton, and a selector wheel):
The first light I'm not sure about it but puts "Трев." That could be an abbreviation of "Тревога", that's transliterated as "Treboga", and means, in millitary terms, 'alarm'. The light below I couldn't guess what is it, but the button below that, that says "СБРОС", transliterated "Sbros", means 'reset'.
Then, the second sort of switches. Just the wheel switch, that has 3 positions, that where it says "ПРИЕМ", that's transliterated "priem" and has several meanings, like 'admission', 'reception', 'dose' or 'procedure'. The 3 possible selections are "СООБЩ.", "ÐВТ.", and "СЕЛЕКТ.", that, transliterating, is "Soobctch." (abbreviation of 'soobctcha), "Avt." (abbreviation of 'avtomat'), and "Selekt", meaning the first, 'collective' or 'together', the second 'automatic', and the third 'select' or 'selection'.
Then, we have an indicator on the right top corner, that has to be the voltimeter of the poly-switch below. You can read "откл.", abbreviation of "отключено" (Was very hard for me to find entirely that word!!), transliterating as "otklyucheno" that means in english 'shut off', 'deactivate', 'override', etc. In one word, 'off' 
Then there is several numbers followed with a 'B', that's the 'V' we have for indicating voltage, as is, 'V' of 'volts'.
Below the multiswitch (i won't transliterate more...) we can read 'KOHTP.', that may be an abbreviation of 'control' (in english).
The last multi-switch (dunno what is it for) you can choose in 3 positions, "TPEB." (alarm) , "откл." (shut off), again, and the last it reads as "NP" transliterated, but I don't know what it could be.
Lastly, next to the big text, the brand, "SIGNAL" there is another light that reads as "AKKYM.", that may be the abbrev. of 'accumulator', that is, the energy of that thing. There is on the lower part of that box a cable that gets out from another "AKKYM." plug, so it has to be the input of energy.
That certainly is not a radio, at least an standard one. Seems more as a kind of sonar or fancy communication system.
Does anyone know something about ship electronics?
Any ideas?
I hope that stuff help trying to guess what is it for.
