| | | May long Weekend Mining in the Golden/Cranbrook/Kimberly area < on 4/17/2006 1:01 AM >
| | | UEA Calgary is hosting a may long weekend event in The Golden BC Area. It will consist of road tripping, underground mine exploring and several ghost towns. Any explorer who has a serious interest is welcome to join us. We are hoping to have explorers in from Edmonton, Winnipeg and perhaps Toronto. Post me a message if you are abel to come out and we can coordinate more of the details. We are hoping to get a large van but alternate plans would be some smaller vans and/or cars. We will leave Calgary on the 19th of May in the evening and return to Calgary on the Monday night. Others are also welcome to join us in Golden if they are coming from other directions. I think we will about 15 people on the trip but more are welcome.
If you ever come to Calgary then email [email protected] and you'll be made welcome, taken to locations and given free accommodation. We'll help save you the $$$ you spend on the flight over here :) |

| | | Do you think if I could get myself to Golden that you'd have space in a vehicle for local transit? Hitchhiking is easy enough to get there, but I wouldn't have a way of getting around in Golden except by rollerblading and usually smaller BC cities don't have the best roads for small wheels, which probably would create an interesting situation if I tried to get to a remote abandoned town.

| | | Either Abbotsford or more likely Vancouver. The big tragedy is my dSLR camera is out for repairs and probably won't be back in time for May. Might be able to get another camera in the meantime. It's brutal to go back to a slow point and shoot. If people are going to be driving from this city, I'll take that luxurious option, unless it costs too much money. Trying to not spend much money this summer and still live meaningfully (I have reasons beyond being cheap, which I am all right, like a leperous gigolo).

| | | I dunno if anyone is commig out from Vancity. There have been some "personality issues" bewteen the Alberta and BC commuity in the past. But honestly I would be tickled pink to explore with some folks from Van or Vic. I am not in a position to go out there in the forseeable future and most of the other gang here is saving up for trips to Burning Man, Moscow, Europe etc. So I will do what I can to help out explorers coming out this way. I am hoping to hit Winnipeg(again), Toronto and Russia this year and perhaps Burning Man so my UE travel itenaray is packed.

| | | Here is a link to one of the mines we have been exploring for over 5 years now. http://www.bretz.c...olio.shtml?monarch We will not be doing this one on the may long. We have now mapped out the entire monarch system and are looking for new challenges.

| | | If you want to we could also do a trip to the west Kootneys. I grew up in Trail and now live in Edm. My parents have a pretty big place and there are mines in Rossland. There are only 2 goldmine tours in Canada to my knowledge. Rossland has one. There are a few mines that I would love to explore that are not a tourist attraction. (Rossland is 13 km away from Trail.) Trail also has a interesting collection of rock walls that are huge long and quite neat. This possible trip could be scheduled for late June or sometime in July. I am pretty flexible, but i have no vehicle, just a freight train every now and then, and 18 years of hitchhiking experience.

| | | I think there are going to be soem explorers coming down from edm. It may be possible to work out a rideshare. They are on here from time to time. I will leave it to them if they want to offer.

| | | Plans are coming together. We will be exploring the Mineral King Mine next to Panorama mountian resort. We will also be using the off season super cheap rates to stay at the resort. The resort has onsite hotpools, nightclub, restaurants, mountian biking, golf, tennis, swimming, and of course mines! The resort has rock climbing courses and I will see if we can arrange one for everyone. I am also working on trying to rent some ATVs. We also may try to infil an active mine in another community nearby. [last edit 5/14/2006 7:07 PM by Skaught - edited 1 times]
