Anyone up for a little UE tomorrow? I'm thinking about dragging my husband out there with me at about 3:00 or so (possibly earlier). If anyone's interested, PM me and we'll make arrangements. Hope to see some of you there.

Sorry you guys couldn't make it. We'll have to put together a long trip out there sometime. It looks like this base is HUGE. It basically surrounds the Portsmouth TCC campus [which I believe used to be part of the base]. The perimeter is fenced and there are signs posted which read "Danger - Closed for Environmental Cleanup." Anyone know what that's all about?

We just took a quick trip over today so I only saw a couple of buildings and didn't go in any. Several other buildings can be seen by satellite. We did take a stroll down some lovely overgrown roads - in some places the asphalt is completely covered over with debris.

One really cool thing we did see was a fox family, complete with mom, dad and two babies! They were soooo cute!

Oh wow, that is nuts! I can't believe that. I thought it might have been something like that when I saw this inlet that was blocked off from the rest of the river and it looked all stagnant and nasty. Ugh. I'm glad I don't go to TCC. And what is really crazy is that there were people fishing right there near that inlet! In fact, that whole area, at least the TCC part, seems to be a big hangout. There were tons of people by the riverfront when we were there.

Thanks for the great link, Powder. I still want to keep exploring there...the biggest deterrent for me is all the TICKS!
