| | | Always a concern, that's for sure, especially when they say that they cannot even recycle them. I would love to explore them as well. I wonder if this idea is too far out there. What kind of expense would be involved in the digging of an inland trench? Lining it with sealing type sheeting, bringing them in and burying them? How ridiculous is that? N. | | | They would be cool to check out! Living in the desert I don't get to do many ships. N, digging the canal is no sweat. I've run a little heavy equipment, and you might be amazed at how much earth 4 or 5 machines can move in a day. The problem here would be lining it to the satisfaction of the environmental crowd, not to mention how happy they would be that somebody was digging a ship sized canal through sensitive wetlands, etc. Drain the fuel and oil, remove obvious things like batteries and liquid paint, and sink the damn things as reefs. The sea will take care of the whole thing in a very short time.
I have changed my personal exploring ethics code. From now on it will be: "Take only aimed shots, leave only hobo corpses." Copper scrappers, meth heads and homeless beware. The Jonsered cometh among you, bringing fear and dread. |

| | | Well I can't say much about it as I'm several thousand miles from them and I've done minimal exploring even round my home here in Bermuda. But I'm aching to poke round them nonetheless. I've been trying to Google Earth the location (the image will have been taken long before they were docked, but just for fun), but I'm having no luck. Cheers

| | | There is also some of these Ghost ships in the UK stuck in limbo for dismantling, they visited them and the controversy around them. Most of the toxins are PCB's and asbestos, which is pretty much nothing to stop us from exploring them. A lot nastier stuff comes out when they are broken up though, that's why they are sent to third world countries, yay!

| | | it's not even staten island boatyard either ..., but if you do get the chance, enter by water and you'll be in awe at what's still there rotting away in the water, and yes it's viewable on google earth still. though some of the ships have been removed and junked already.
cheers ! " Take only pictures, leave only footprints" |
