Old Boat in Shediac, Canada. Spunked on.

Chris...

We all had ostriches. My dad had an ostrich farm! I remember one day someone came in and said the high altitude bombing of Kosovo had been a limited success, so we all went out and celebrated… by killing an ostrich and boiling it in kiwi fruit.

Camina was stuck on a sand bank for 2 years. It's owned by 2 Arizona guys who don't care about it. And since it was menacing to crash into Shediac's bridge very soon, government paid to have it removed and towed to the Pointe-du-Chêne warf, where it is now. Government is suing the owners for the expenses of moving the boat. It took the gov. 6 months to free the boat from the sand banks.

Interesting thing : Federal gov. didn't want to do anything cause it said since it was stuck on sand, then it was "on ground" which means the responsability of the provincial government. Provincial gov. didn't want to do anything about it cause it said that at high tides, the boats was surrounded by water and was then technically in water, meaning it was the responsability of federal government.

Camina was once a ferry in the caribians and even transported the Queen. Boats was retired from service and sold to a canadian man from the Acadian Peninsula in New Brunswick, Canada who planned to transform it in a floating restaurant up in northern New Brunswick. The man died of a heart attack and the boat was for sale again. It ended up to those 2 Arizona Men who really don't care about it. They moved it to southestern New Brunswick and the boat was at the wharf for a year. But the owners never paid the money due to the wharf administration, who just untied the boat. Boat drifted away for a good 2 years and started menacing to come crashing into the town's bridge, before ending up stuck about 100 meter from the bridge in sand.

Engine was removed many years ago in order to be able to get the boat into Canada as the old, leaking engine was considered an environmental hazard.

Hang about... I thought the name Camina sounded familiar. We had an old ferry here in Bermuda called the same, and I wonder if that might be it. Gummint retired some of their old tubs and replaced them with new, high-speed ferries some time ago, and that might be it.

How bout that...

Well, this dream was at least partially realised as I shared a Can of Pepsi and a Dairy Milk with D up on the top deck.

I'm sure the previous owner would be so proud to know that his plan worked out... In some way!

Cool pictures. Would love to explore an old boat but we don't have any of those here in landlocked west Texas.

I figured out what's wrong with life:
It's other people.

I would have got some better - but my camera started misbehaving in the engine room. Dunno if it was the extra power drain of the flash, the intense cold or the spirits of dead engineers (or all three) but my Canon wasn't keen to play the 'camera game' with me!

Odd!

Ha! Well fear not because I'll be back in Canadia lots in the coming year / years. Summer trip is very much on the agenda - if I can learn to deal with Mosquitos the size of eagles and humidity like a bottle of water!

And a trip to MTRL to see you is always attractive Nel!

Yep. that's the one. Same boat.

And Tz, there is a law in Canada, cannot go to Montreal without me. Customs agents won't let you in the island as Montreal is a separate republic.

Seriously. (she says with the "I'm watching you" look of Robert DeNiro in Meet the Parents).
