It appears to have been a small oil refinery back in the day. There were three large tanks accompanied two medium sized buildings As you can expect in a full scale ghetto hood like this one, every inch of the place has been bashed shitless, and there has been at least one major fire. Covering most of the surfaces is an assortment of tags by local writers in West Philly, as well as a couple of fairly nice pieces. There was also a fair amount of artwork done by train hoppers (basically modern day hobos) who stopped and squatted there occasionally. I had grabbed only one shot of the tanks themselves one day in January when it was unusually warm out but left after it started getting dark. I figured that the place would always be there for quite some time and I could get better pics later. Fast forward to early March when Philly was hit with unseasonably hot spring-like weather. I was dying to do something outside, so back I went to grab those tank shots. Much to my dismay however, the tanks were razed. Not a single scrap of metal was left. The freshness of the tire tracks made it appear that this work was done only a few days ago.
