Exploring construction sites?

There's a large apartment complex being erected behind my building I'm planning to explore. I was just curious to know what you guys thought about exploring construction sites. Is it kids' stuff, or worth checking out? I've been observing this place and know there's no security, although the site is fairly exposed to the alley behind my home which gets a decent amount of foot traffic.

It looks like there will be some interesting photo opportunities, such as this parking garage entrance I photographed on Saturday morning.

You can see the gap in the fence where we will gain access. I could jump it but I doubt my girlfriend can.

Here's one of the smaller buildings in the complex from a few months before. The building on the right frame is larger and the apartment entrances are exposed to the open air, so I can tell the front doors haven't been installed yet.

There also seems to be open access to the roofs of some buildings.

Here's an overexposed shot of my girlfriend and cat looking down at the site from our rooftop. She's afraid to go because of ghosts.

If everything goes according to plan, I'll have a set of nighttime photos all over the site by the end of the week.

Ha, that's what I told her. On the other hand, who knows what was there before these high-rises. If you can find some of my older galleries, you can see homes that have been smashed apart by Korean gangsters and whose residents have been chased away under threat of violence.

I'm not in North America, by the way.

I don't really think any urbex could be categorized as 'kid's stuff'. It's about the experience and the photos, right? Not for any kind of urbex 'street rep'. I've been to a couple of construction sites and found it really fun. Easy access, little or no security, almost guaranteed roof access (depending on level of completion)- fun stuff. The view from up top ought to be worth the journey alone.

Construction sites are definitely fun.

It's a way for me to get into parts of buildings that would be locked up tight after it's complete. (e.g the roof) And bare concrete and halogen lamps have their own appeal. Happy infiltrations.

Well guess what. It had either security guards or workers at 12am. We went out late at night and saw drunk old Korean men wandering around everywhere. I decided we could use this as our excuse if we get caught; we were hiding from a belligerent drunk.

We went through the opening in the fence and wrapped around the ramp along the right side, so we could hide from people on the street. We got to the entrance to the ramp, where I was set to pose my girlfriend. Then there was a bang behind us, somewhere deeper in the complex. We both tore out of there.

My girlfriend was very brave, even braver than me. Her worst fear is ghosts, but mine is security guards. We didn't see any ghosts. The security guard came with his flashlight on from the left side, turned off his light and walked through the underside of that apartment building, and then basically followed our tracks to the exit. I hid behind a car and my girlfriend watched him. Finally I pulled her around a corner and we ran for it.

But as for pictures, we crapped out. Here's a crappy composite view from our balcony of the area we explored. I didn't get a single photo while on the grounds.

Never mind you didn't get far. It's still an adventure and a fun-to-read report! Well done.

Haha, cool quote. Sucks you didn't get too far in, but it may not be impossible. Don't give up!

Thanks for the move. I wasn't sure if it belonged in photography or not, since I failed to get any photos. It's a convenient site so I'm going to make this into a campaign.

Seems like a nice place. But yeah, security should be taken seriously whenever there is one. I personally prefer construction sites to abandoned buildings.

Well crap, the original pictures are down because my domain changed.

Last weekend I came up with a plan with my girlfriend. Because we can see down to the site from our window, I had her up there with a cell phone while I ventured onto the site. I ran top speed down the ramp, snapped this picture, and ran up again. On the bright side, there were no security guards responding. Next time I'm going to get into an apartment before they install doors.

Not really a great picture but hopefully I'll have more time for that next time.
