| | civil defense bomb shelter < on 3/10/2006 4:00 AM >
| | | first off i'm new to this site, hope this fits in. first off i'm a commercial plumber, not housing, i do lots of industrial type work. well a few years back i was doing a job at the renton sewage treatment plant, ya there's a smell about the place. well i got my crew down in the tunnels installing pipe. down through the tunnels day after day we proceed and then there this access panel on the wall of the tunnel. well my blue prints don't show no access panel there, so its off to the plant managers office i go. nothing on thier print either. so they tell me to go ahead an burn out the lock and see whats there. so we burn the lock and slowly open the door, it the door is about 24"x24", and flashlight in hand i look inside. it was like a step back in time. there before me was a room about 20 foot square, all underground. the inside of this room was stocked with civil defense supplies from the early sixties. from med supplies with all the drugs, to canned foods (yuck!!!) to some yellow hard candies which some of the guys tried , they was still good. so as you go exploring you never know what you will find underground and yes i've been in the tunnels under many schools, uw , dimmit middle school ect. a word about safety watch out for asbestos in them old places it will kill you in the long run.
