Do you have any questions about the belt?
| | | | Asylums/Hospitals near Cincinnati < on 2/24/2006 10:38 PM >
| | | I’m new to the forums but have been into UE since High School. I’m originally from NY but moved to the Cincinnati area a few years ago. I haven’t done nearly as much exploring here as I used to back in NY. There’s plenty of warehouses and factories in Cinci but I’ve always been fascinated by asylums/hospitals. I was wondering if anyone knows of anyplace near Cincinnati that’s worth checking out? I tried searching but couldn’t seem to find anything. Feel free to PM me, and thanks in advance for any info.

| | | Yes their are, but as a life long resident of Cincinnati and 16 yr U.E. Cincinnati has what I call the "I'm using that!!!syndrome" meaning that most bldg. in the city are at least being partially used for something. I will be more than happy to give out some tips. I'll check back in a few days to see if anyone has responded.

| | | The only thing that's somewhat near you is The Ridges, in Athens. There's one in Lima, but it's total crap. And there's one up by Cleveland, which owns all the rest.

| | | I've lived in Cincinnati my whole life, but am just recently becoming involved in UE. Sites are few and far between, and I've been spending most of my time exploring active buildings. I keep my eyes open for any abandoned sites, but it seems that nothing lasts very long. Everything that empties is either baught by new owners or torn down very quickly.

| | | Yep, welcome to Cincinnati. I do think however based on my knowledge of the city and it's history there are a lot of things here that we've overlooked. Plainly put, I think given Cincinnati's somewhat unique UE situation, as a group we're going to just have to work harder and get better organized.

| | | That's a good point. I'm new to UE, but from what I can tell Cincinnati is almost a black hole. Even forgotten Ohio almost completely leaves Cincinnati out, with the Munitions Plant in Kings Mills being the exception. We need to get something started.

| | | I'm up for both, more than exploring the tunnels of UC, I just like to get to the parts that no one else goes. I'd be interested in exploring buildings just as much as tunnels.

| | | I'll tell a fun place to check out is the CL&N RR Tunnel in Walnut hills. If you're new to UE it's a pretty low-risk, but still fun outing. If you go, some advice, wear boots, long pants, and bring a flashlight. I have been thru this one a few times and even though it is an easy UE I always enjoy it. Cut and paste this address http://www.cincinn...ransit.net/cln.htm for details on how to get there as well as some history.

| | | The CL&N seems interesting, and is just a few minutes from where I live. I've been to that page several times before but never noticed that! I drive right past it almost every day. After a little reading, I think we should vow to find the Deer Creek tunnel.

| | | I can't be for sure, but I thought that I remember reading about someone from U.C. finding an entrance some where and bringing in a professional natural cave spelunker to help explore. Ever since I read your post, I've been driving my self nuts looking for that article. I can't remember if it was an internet page or if I read it in something like City Beat. I do remember that the spelunker was uncomfortable being in a man-made tunnel, and that it was somewhere local. I actually don't remember if it was deer creek or not. Either way if it was about deer creek then that means there is a way in. If it isn't about deer creek maybe we can find a way in. I just got back from a solo UE in Cumminsville. I wasn't really afraid, but being alone out there made me apprehensive enough to not take some of the risks I normally would. I found my self passing over some potentially interesting spots, and I don't know if it was because I was alone and nobody knew where I was, or if it was because it was my first outing in awhile, or maybe it's just that I'm getting older. It was still fun though I'm going back soon, hopefully to get some pics. p.s. Cumminsville is between Fairmount and Northside, tucked along side the Millcreek opposite the railyards.
