| | | Anyone been? Theres a set of old boarded up buildings at the dead end of one of the main streets, really wanted to get in, but didnt know if it was a bust to be seen lurking around there. Looks beautiful (photo-op.)

| | | Is it on Washington street right by the canal? If it is, it's the Brewhouse that's in the DB under Morris.

| | | I think I know what you're talking about but not too sure...if you check it out and it's worthwhile...let me know. You might want to stop at the library there to check on local history or contact a news reporter in the area...I know that a valuable statue was stolen from that area about this time last year, so police presence may be high. Let me know though...I am in nearby Joliet.

| | | It's currently set to members only so you won't be able to see it, I forgot about that. I while back I e-mailed the guy when he was selling it on e-bay and he gave me some info about the place. I pretended to be a mushroom grower looking to lease the place out, heh: I received your e-mail relative to the victorian brewery buildings near Chicago, Illinois and your question about cellars for growing mushrooms. Not shown on the picture, and to the right of the picture, and on the north side of the building is a two story building with a basement that was used to store the beer in wooden casks before it was to be bottled. This building was the last building built, in 1906, and was well insulated with cork on the walls, and it was refrigerated to keep the beer cold; each floor has about 3,000 square feet with high ceilings, 12 to 15 feet, and only four narrow windows on the first and second floors, and three small windows in the basement which is about 12 feet below ground that tapers to about five feet below ground in the rear. The brewery was the first building in town to have electricity as they generated it on site as well as having the refrigerating equipment. The first floor and basement of this building, which I call the "north building" never gets much above 50 degrees in the summer time because it is so well insulated as well as being on the north side. The floors in the "north building" are made of some type of concrete, covered with a black waterproof material and are supported by heavy steel "I" beams with heavy cast iron posts that hold up the steel beams; the total floor area in the "north building" is about 10,000 square feet; and the cubic volume is about 120,000 cubic feet. Additionally the building shown in the picture, which I call the "south and/or corner building" has a basement as well as another section of the building to the west (left side of picture) wich I call the "center and/or middle building". The basements in these buildings is about 8 feet below ground and is about 4 feet higher than the "north building" basement. I have additional photographs of the total building complex as well as pictures of the interior that i can e-mail to you, should you be interested, I will also consider leasing the "north building" should you be interested in leasing rather than buying. Will Sargeant I've never been in it yet, but it can be done. Or so I'm told.

| | | Yeah, there are some busted out upper level windows that one could put a ladder to. Im mainly afraid of being seen lurking around there, I dont want to be taken for a vandal, but I would love to get inside with some camera equipment and take my sweet time shooting and wandering. Theres a sizable forest to the rear, perhaps in the summer it would be possible to dump a ladder on the far side of the forest, and then walk it in from the back where no one would see you. I just was hoping someone knew of an easier way. I used to know a kid that lived in the second house down from the place, he would have known a way in, but he moved. bah.

| | | Hey man. I live in Morris in the downtown area. I'm not sure what building you're talking about though.... We have an older 'brew house' type building that I don't know what was in it and we have an abandonned paper mill that looks freaking sweet. Let me know what's up.

| | | I went there solo one night a few months ago. I was heading up to the top floor, I was just about there when I heard some noises.. loud ones.. coming from up there. It was probably just an open window or an animal or something... but I was spooked enough to leave. What is up there anywho?
