| | | Can we recommand someone for moderator status? Cause then I would recommand Mapman as a new UE DB moderator. I think there's not one location in the DB he hasn't rated.

| | | I guess you can -- just click the link and change the subject to "Recommendation for XXXXX". But you should also get them to submit an application, because they have to be willing to be a moderator. -av

| | | are there any prerequisites for the mod application, Av? i would be totally willing to commit the time to the board, but i am unsure as to if someone as new as myself would even be eligible. ~b

| | | If you click onto the application form, it lists the requirements to be a moderator.
These are the requirements for being a UER moderator:
- You must have an average of one hour of time a day to spend moderating. More is better, and of course I don't track this time: This is just a guideline.
- You need to be a generally good speller and good with grammar. If you've used the letter "u" to replace "you" in one of your posts, this position isn't for you.
- You may have access to priviledged information. You must be the kind of person who can keep a secret.
- You must be over the age of 18. Sorry, younger members, but it's for legal reasons.
- You must already be a full member.

Dang, I meet all of those except for age. I must wait two years, one month, and one day till the day I can actually vote/moderate. I doubt I'd be chosen anyway, but it's a chance to give back to the site I visit on a daily basis. [last edit 2/17/2006 11:28 PM by Sinister Crayon - edited 2 times]

| | | My problem with putting in applications for moderator is its going to be the ones that want to control and have power. I think the nominations are better idea but not fool proof. How about nominations, and then you request an application from them personally. This way if the person wants to or someone thinks he will be good he gets nominated. If he/she declines no harm, no fowl. Plus if someone wants to they can always get a nomination from a friend on here.

If they abuse it, Av will probably remove them. It is not like once you get it you are in for life. Simmer down people....

| | | I don't think people are dumb enough to vote for moderators they think are popular. Users should vote according to the respect they have , how the person normally behaves, If that person doesn't cause trouble, is responsible, etc. But if it becomes a popularity contest, then screw it and let Av choose them.

Yeah thats part of the issue. I think the popular ones are going to apply anyways. However at least this way we would get a more.... diverse base. Especially since most of the moderators that have experience and were outspoken but neutral are gone. Andrea - I agree to the most part. However with the issues stated about AV we can come to a few conclusions. He is going to pick people that he wants no matter what. He will pick the best resumes(or best BS artist however you read it). The nomination idea allows someone else to be the BS artists, the guy to fill in the blanks, and accept the positon. Honestly if I didnt know how damn hard you work in school I would nominate you Andrea. Har Har Kubla Hardy Har Har We had good moderators, we have some good ones if they were on here. THD was great, but alas I think even if she partook in moderating still she would probably side with Ed. I couldn't blame her on that at all. My biggest fear is the few people that will put in a resume will be the ones with the greatest chance to abuse power, within the confines of the rules. If Jesters comments are even remotely credible then one can only come to the conclusion that his so called "abuses" could be done by others who maybe more in line with AV in some ways. This is not to say AV will allow abuse, but one flamewar is another persons civil debate, and one persons comment, could be construed as a lie. The fine line in the Others forum is horribly difficult. As for say the Main/Tutorial that would be alot easier to maintain, and less political then say DB, website, other etc.
