As some of you know, I have always been into Asylums, their history and their architecture.

Well, I finally decided to take it to the next level and build a historical index. This index is not just going to be on State Hospitals, but also state schools, reform schools, orphanages, and in a limited view prisons.

This is going to be an ongoing project and I plan on adding all sorts of information on these institutions from books, to links, images, interviews, etc.

The link to my project is: http://www.asylumprojects.org

Have a look around and enjoy it, because as I said on the front page, if it were just for me, I would never have put it up online!!

Hey Brother,

Nice site. I was looking at the state menu on the left. I notice you list Highland State Hosiptal, and Patton State Hospital. They are the same location. Patton State Hospital is in the city of Highland at the corner of Highland and Victoria. I used to live right smack across the street from it. Its hard to see the buildings because there are a lot of planted trees. There used to be a Kirkbride there. The entire hospital and its grounds are very heavily used since its still an active state hospital. Try giving the hospital a call and speaking with someone who is educated on its history. Im interested as much as you are.

Here are some postcards of Patton State Hospital.

Norwalk State hospital and Metro State are also the same location. Im in Norwalk everyday, and my ladys mother lives there. I am usually 2 blocks away and have actually driven inside the gates to make a u turn. The grounds are guarded by real police and you must have a purpose to enter. I noticed some really old buildings in there, but they are all under construction and being updated. There should be an extensive history on this place as well. Its stil 100% active, so you may have luck contacting someone on the inside who knows the history.

If you need anything else, im glad to be of assistance. I wouldnt mind if you put me to work as i am interested in Asylums as well

Thanks for that information. I'll update my list.

I am always on the lookout for more information.

Again, thank you for your help.
