I need help finding a place in Maryland. Patuxent Mental Hospital...aka Fuller State School (on opacity.us). Ive done just about all the searching I can handle on google and cant find crap on closed hospitals in MD.

Opened in 1925, closed in 1991. Thats all I know.

Mott's (among others) renames sites. The more difficult it is to figure out, the less you should probably be there. Asking for hints is cheating. Pick an easier one.

well if thats the case then your only going to have a circle of friends that knows about a place if they want to be selfish and keep it all to themselves. Im gettin real tired of this 'holier than thou, find it yourself' attitude.

you cant expect everyone to tell you exactly where some place is just because you ask.(even though i did when i first started posting here) google and Pm's are probably your best bet. (dont get tired and grumpy yet, it doesnt make anyone wanna help you)

Exactly...

It's all good, half of the fun in UE is using your resourses to reasearch and finding the places yourself. There is no shame in asking for help, but you need to beable to do some of the "homework" yourself.

I understand what you are saying but trust me, "holier than thou" has nothing to do with what Bry said, and "find it yourself" is what UE is all about.

I find stuff about a state school in MD called "Patuxent Institution" but it seems like its active and not the place you are looking for.

It's not as if we are trying to be elitists here (to the original poster), but a lot of us are getting tired of seeing our contributions lead to people vandalising places, or blaming us for their lot in life when they get caught. Anymore today, it is not just a security reasoning that many obscure their locations, but a liability reasoning, as was in my case.

For me, I rarely ask around if there are places to explore. I do some leg work by scouting places such as Terraserver-USA, Topozone, etc. There are gems, for example, that are within 20 minutes from here that I just recently discovered by driving around!

Best of wishes.

I am "holier than thou". I was challenged to find this location by having only one photograph as a clue and I did it in under 2 hours. If you have 3-4 galleries plus history write-ups and you cant figure it out...

If you screw up at this place you might just get an M-16 in your face. There are reasons we dont make certain locations public.

Eh, I think that's debatable. I mean exploring is part of the name, yes. But I think there are tons of valid reasons to do it other then that. I mean, maybe you just appreciate lonely, abandoned places. Or you like the history aspect. Or just taking pictures. I don't think there's anything wrong with that.

That said, I'm not trying to start a debate, 'cus I can understand people not wanting to just give locations away, especially if part of the reason they do it is to explore, or find a special place nooone else knows about. Just sayin', I can see other points of view.

When you tell everyone the place becomes a party spot, an after school hangout... Then the taggers hear about it and in comes the spraypaint. Some one does something stupid and security is added or increased. Some kid tells his dad and his dad tells a friend who is a scrapper. Him and his redneck friends show up late one night with trucks and steal anything metal from the place destroying it in the process. Later on some kids are hanging out and one gets pissed and goes off by himself and burns the place to teh ground out of rage....

Now on the other hand. When just a select few know about a place, people that respect it... You can expect it to stay in perfect condition with the only vandalism coming from the weather.

That sounds like Henryton, except that it hasn't burned to the ground(yet). And Bacongonebad, if you whine about not getting exact directions to a sensitive location you're not going to make any friends here. Too many of us have seen the damage by posting locations with address info in the DB, the vandalism follows soon after.

Yeah, even though Henryton was known by many Maryland people before I added it to the DB it didn't get as trashed as its gotten until after I had added it. It's a little late to do anything about it now and even if I wanted too the DB location has taken on a life of its own way past what I created. Anyway, a lot of people here won't mind sharing information about a location if asked, but generally not to someone new to the forums who we don't know and can't trust. I'm not saying the topic maker is untrustworthy, but you can't expect us to share information about some places until you've proven yourself.

I agree. I have locations I don't like to share. I don't want to see something tagged up by a bunch of rowdy kids when the main thing I do is take abstract photography. Tagging and vandalism aren't especially nice to see around my favorite sites. I'll share if you get to know me, and any locations in Richmond I'll probably tell you about if you PM me, otherwise as a rule I don't post directions or location details.

I had nothing to offer anybody except my own confusion.

Personally, I don't care a whole lot about protecting "my" locations. I like drains. Anyone should feel free to tag the crap out of them, you certainly don't need my permission.

To the original poster: buildings suck anyway. Give in and go draining.

Do you not think that party people and taggers are not always on the lookout for some place new to party in or tag just as we are always looking for some where new to explore. You can't realistically expect a place to stay in "perfect" condition. We are not alone! Even if our intentions differ.

Afterthought: I am not saying that we should disclose locations, just that we can't have the expectation that these sites are entirely ours even if we keep the DB to members only.

I'm sad to say I spent 1 hour or so, and still haven't found it (I think). There so many sites in MD, thick woods...plenty of places that are easy to find if you live there. I'm in Mcpgamer's sad position, however it's bad form, and practice to openly post info. I will ask in a private message, but for good reasons people are reluctant!
Vandals, and TAGGERS (IS THERE A DIFFERENCE?!) have literally destroyed some of my favorite shoots. (Ask me why I hate taggers/"WRITERS"!!) Once vandals know everything there is to know about the location, security, best place to enter, best time day, the equinox, etc. of a site these scumbags are good to go. I will not post the location of my prime spots...will not even post the pics on public forum. I'm tired of walking on broken glass that once was crystal.
