One problem with removing information from the database is that unlike pictures it's difficult to tell who may have contributed it. Anyone can create or modify location information. If seicer goes in and deletes the information who's to say he's not removing someone elses material?

There is a change log...

That's why we have the whole "marked for deletion" process, so a mod can review the content and make sure its removal does not impact other contributors to the site. We could just have easily ignored it, but then we'd very well be here having a conversation with another user upset that their information has been removed without their permission.

In either case it's drawing mods attentions away from the housekeeping chores that have fallen so far behind, were they not behind these locations would have been removed by a moderator after review anyway. Does the users deleting the locations themselves, possibly causing issues with other users, or waving their free speech flag and getting the other users of the system riled up really seem like the actions of someone whos primary interest is really protecting their locations and keeping the DB efficient? Or, does it sound like 'Trolling'?

Many locations were marked for deletion, except that, as you stated in your second paragraph, did not occur because the "housekeeping chores" were behind. I understand that, but because of escalating security issues, I felt that information needed to be removed asap before I get into any more trouble. I will be doing that to Abandoned over the weekend and through next week.

I don't expect mods to immediately remove information. That is their own free time, and I don't want to impede on their free time in any way. It's sad when it boils down to this, however, that a user cannot remove information, especially in an unusual situation like this.

I didn't want to being this upon myself in any sort of fashion, but shit happens, and you just gotta deal with it the best that you can.

You can say you had permission, doesn't mean I know it's true.

It was a simple fucking question, anyone could ask if they felt like it. Should I ask it ? Hell yes. If he didn't want any questions, he shouldn't mention it on a fucking message board.

Suposition doesn't create proof of guilt. If the items were taken with permission, which probably is true with the sites in question, then its a moot point.

In fact its a moot point when we look at the problem at hand. Lets not stir things up, both pro and anti Jester, because it doesnt help resolve the matter one bit.

While I have my own ideas about what should be removed from the LDB I think its a bit harsh to have his full membership revoked. Turbozutek, Abandonedsc among others have requested their information be taken off the site and it was ok. I'll reserve judgement until AV states why he did this but it seems extreme.

and for once Jester could you stop being an antagonistic asshole? you have no frame of reference on whether or not seicer had permission. Its like you telling me "No DjMalign, I don't have a intimate relationship with Mike Dijital" and me saying "That doesn't mean I know its true". A moderator is supposed to show MODERATION, not fuck with every user when he deems it nessicary.

As is the process, you ask and it will get done by the LDB mods. Simple procedure, he knew it too.

I don't fuck with anyone, I asked a legitimate question. They show up at his door because of vandalism ? Whether he did anything to cause that or not, they came to him to investigate. If there were reports of theft from the sites, would it not stand to reason that they would also ask him about that ? Common fucking sense.

So there's a procedure in place to remove content, great!
Seicer, you admitted to bypassing this procedure because you feel some sort of insistant pressure to do so. Sorry, you deserve to lose your status for that, if only to protect the integrity of the DB.

If it was an emergency (although I question the validity of your claim that "they wanted to arrest you" - if they did, they would have... I don't doubt that they came to talk to you, but I think perhaps you're exaggerating.) you should have gone to every single moderator until you got a response. Not one, not two, but as many as it took until someone replied.

You took it into your own hands, broke the procedure for removing things, and got caught. The ends don't justify the means in this case. You have (had) Full Membership because you are trusted to not do what you did. And you betrayed that trust.

They do have vandalism task squads in both atlanta and nyc so i'm guessing yeah, i'm guessing it could be the case. Besides its off topic, but you know that being a moderator and all

Ok, let me get this right. You're going to remove the info from your own sites, over the next few days.

But you don't expect the mods here to remove the information immediately?

So you ran and did it yourself instead of giving the mods a chance...

...which had not occured since I submitted requests a while back. As Chainsaw stated, things get put behind, people have lives, and things on UER get ignored. UER is not life, as some state

Does nobody read my replies? I stated many times that I submitted requests but it was put into queue long ago. READ UP.

The mod who was asked to remove the entries said it was not very long ago...

You still need to allow for due process...

well this could all stop now if seicer: you allow the mods time to take stuff off the LDB and apologize for doing something contrary to their system.

Everyone else: leave it be, its not worth being bitchy with a contributing member of this community. Supposedly that's what we try to be, a community....right?

It was put into the queue. Exactly. That's the procedure.

Just like the DMV, McDonalds or the grocery store. You wait your turn.

Your reply just shows that Av did the right thing in removing your ability to remove/add.

You overstepped your boundaries.

I would have been happy to help Seicer, right away in order to help you avoid problems with the police. Mods get busy, and forget things. Your time would have been better spent hanging out in chat looking for a mod with some free time and asking for their assistance.

Your decision to take matters into your own hands is understandable, but you had alternatives you had not explored yet. Your full member status is at this point between you and Av (with mods on both sides of your case tugging his ears). I can't change what happened but ask you to seek out more than one or two mods for assistance if something critical like this happens in the future.

Ed: Regarding the change log - I said 'difficult', not impossible. It just takes time and effort to make sure it's done right, that's the point I was trying to make. It is less difficult to determine who contributed a picture than it is the other text information in the LDB so it does require some special attention.

If the information that I requested could be removed within one week, which is the timeframe I am giving myself on Abandoned to remove similar content, then that is acceptable. I mean no harsh feelings to any mods over this, but shit hits the fan, things happen, and you gotta take it as you see it.

*ahem*

Moderators can not delete locations. We can mark them for deletion and/or delete galleries. It is up to Av to remove them entirely from the site.

(moderators go here to see the list of locations to be deleted)

I amend my post in that administrators can only remove entries, and extend my apologies to the moderators because I had no idea that that was the situation.

Oh and I was wrong (in stating elsewhere) that it "wasn't that long ago" that the locations were asked to be removed. It was September 13, 2005.
